•November 29, 2023• For more than 30 years, the Coles County Barbershop Chorus with quartets and ensembles have presented their annual one-hour concert. This year it will be held at the United Methodist Church on South 4th Street in Charleston at 3 p.m. on December 3rd.  The chorus began 53 years ago and singers live in 18 different communities within a 50-mile area: Altamont, Arcola, Arthur, Atwood, Brockton, Charleston, Champaign, Effingham, Hindsboro, Mattoon, Mt. 2013  The Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond Lancers won by a slim margin after holding a double digit lead at halftime over Casey-Westfield. History repeated itself the next day. The Lancers held a 21-11 lead at the break over Monticello at Arthur, due in large part to eight points from junior guard Emily Seegmiller in the second quarter.  Owner and operator of Sullivan McDonald’s Angie Matlock donated a $500 check to the Moultrie County Food Pantry, which in turn used the money to purchase turkeys for the Thanksgiving holiday. … Read More
