2025 Piatt County Antique Day

•February 12, 2025• The City of Monticello and Make it Monticello Tourism have announced the 11th Piatt County Antique Day on Saturday, March 1st, from 9am-4pm. The event, which began in 2013, is a way to spotlight the antique shops in some of the smallest communities (ex. Cisco, pop. 238) in one of the most rural counties in central Illinois. Allied Capital Title donates to SBL Regional Cancer Center

Allied Capital Title offices of Charleston, Mattoon, Shelbyville, Tuscola and Sullivan recently donated $640 to the SBL Health Foundation to support patients receiving care at the SBL Regional Cancer Center. During the month of October, the offices donated a portion of closing costs to the Regional Cancer Center. Each office also collected other donations to contribute. “Allied Capital Title has generously donated to the SBL Regional Cancer Center over the years, and we are grateful for their continued support,” SBL Special Events Officer Kim Lockart said.  … Read More

2024 Moultrie County final multiplier announced

•February 12, 2025• Moultrie County has been issued a final property assessment equalization factor of 1.0000, according to David Harris, director of the Illinois Department of Revenue (IDOR). The property assessment equalization factor, often called the “multiplier,” is the method used to achieve uniform property assessments among counties, as required by law. This equalization is particularly important because some of the state’s 6,600 local taxing districts overlap into two or more counties (e.g., school districts, junior college districts, fire protection districts). If there was no equalization among counties, substantial inequities among taxpayers with comparable properties would result. … Read More

Two more conference wins for the Lady Redskins

by E. Scott England The Lady Redskins played two games last week. At the end of the week, they had outscored their two opponents 137-19. The wins moved them to 24-3 (9-0). The first contest of the week was against Okaw Valley. One could venture a guess that by the end of the first quarter, the game was over. National and State Soybean Boards seeking candidates

The Illinois Soybean Board (ISB) is looking for farmers interested in filling two of Illinois’ director positions with the United Soybean Board (USB). Any soybean producer who is engaged in the growing of soybeans in the United States who owns, or who shares the ownership and risk of loss of, is eligible.
