SONIC Drive-In Donates to Local Schools

•June 7, 2023• In honor of May’s Teacher Appreciation Month, SONIC Drive-In’s SONIC Foundation donated $1.5 million to match all public contributions made to requests on DonorsChoose, a national nonprofit that allows individuals to donate directly to public school classroom requests submitted by teachers. As part of SONIC’s ongoing Limeades for Learning initiative, the $1.5 million donation matched 50 percent of each donation made to all teacher requests. New Blessing Box Established in Sullivan to Help With Food Insecurity

•June 7, 2023• by Crystal Reed A new blessing box has been placed in the city of Sullivan to help provide short-term food assistance to those experiencing food insecurity. The new blessing box is located in front of Sullivan First United Methodist Church across from Sullivan Fire Department. According to Cheryl Thomas, coordinator of the blessing box, anyone may place items in the blessing box. However, at this time, items which won’t get hot in the summer heat are suggested. Auction Held at Sullivan Middle School

•June 7, 2023• by Crystal Reed An auction was held at Sullivan Middle School on Saturday, June 3 with a wide variety of items up for grabs. From doors to wall clocks, smart boards, desk chairs and even lockers that were auctioned off in sets. Huber Auction conducted the auction and proceeds from the auction benefit the Sullivan Athletic Boosters. Rudy and Linda Huber conducted the walking auction which started on the third floor of the school and ended at the bus garage. Monthly Quarter Madness

•June 7, 2023• Moultrie County Monthly Quarter Madness will have their June Quarter Auction on Wednesday, June 14 at the Sullivan American Legion. The charity of the month is the Sullivan Okaw Valley Junior Football League (SOV JFL). The JFL program teaches fundamentals of football for younger kids preparing them for the transition to the high school program. There is also flag football which gives kids as young as kindergarten the opportunity to play. Electronics Recycling Event

•June 7, 2023• The City of Sullivan will have an electronic recycling event on Saturday, June 24 from 8:00 and until 11:00 am or until the trailer capacity is reached. The event will be located at Wyman Park parking lot south of Wyman Lake. No wood or projection tvs will be accepted. The Moultrie-Douglas County Fair Pageant will be held Monday, July 27th at 6:00 p.m. for Little Miss Fair Queen and 7:00 p.m. for Miss and Junior Miss Fair Queen located at the south track on the Mo-Do Fairgrounds. Vying for the title of Miss Moultrie Douglas Fair Queen are: Abigail Meyer of Tuscola, Addee Mulligan of Arcola, Sarah Rogers of Atwood, Ava Whitson of Tuscola, Addisyn Wilson of Villa Grove, Emma Spillman of Tuscola, Aymara Leal of Arcola and Katilyn Kirby of Sullivan.
