MCHGS Presentation Focuses On Flora and Fauna of Lake Shelbyville

•March 22, 2023• by Crystal Reed Members of the Moultrie County Historical and Genealogical Society and other attendees heard a presentation on Flora and Fauna 1963 to Present at Lake Shelbyville on the evening of Thursday, March 16. The program was presented by Brock Key and Makayla Tinker, both Natural Resources Specialists with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Lake Shelbyville. Key began by sharing a brief history of the lake. Lake Shelbyville was authorized by the Flood Control Act of 1938, and then World War II happened. Illinois Spring Trout Fishing Season Opens April 1 at 58 Locations Statewide

•March 22, 2023• The 2023 Illinois spring trout fishing season will open Saturday, April 1, at 58 ponds, lakes, and streams throughout the state. An early opportunity at selected trout sites – the spring catch-and-release fishing season – opened March 18. No trout may be kept during the catch-and-release fishing period, but anglers can keep trout after the opening of the regular season beginning April 1. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) stocks more than 80,000 rainbow trout each year in bodies of water where trout fishing is permitted during the spring season. Learn How to be Part of a Successful Deer Donation Program

•March 22, 2023• In response to rising food and meat prices and the challenges food pantries have in obtaining meat, University of Illinois Extension, along with key partners, launched the Illinois Deer Donation Program in 2022. Sullivan celebrates America’s 250th

The annual Fourth of July parade kicked off a fun filled day of celebration hosted by the Sullivan American Legion Saturday.  Wyman Park was the next destination for the always entertaining watermelon eating contest, turtle races and sack races. At dusk, an amazing fireworks display capped off the festivities. More photos can be found on page 12.
