Antique Farm Equipment Used to Harvest Grain at Illinois Amish Heritage Center

•July 13, 2022• by Crystal Reed NP Writer A piece of antique farm equipment was used to harvest a field at the Illinois Amish Heritage Center, 3.5 miles east of Arthur last week. According to Ed Yoder of Kemp, the binder, which is used to harvest oats, wheat and rye, had been in his family for a long time and was built in the 1930’s. The binder was powered by a team of four Belgian draft horses. The equipment had been sitting idle for 10 years. All-Conference Honorees Announced

•July 13, 2022• Millikin University, in conjunction with the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW), announced the CCIW Dave Wrath Academic All-Conference team for Spring season of 2022. Each season the CCIW selects an Academic All-Conference Team. To be recognized, the student-athlete must be enrolled as a full-time student; must have participated on a team during 2022 Spring season; and must have at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average. •July 13, 2022• Charles W. Shuman of Annandale, Va. formerly of Sullivan, will present “Our Kaskaskia River Adventure” July 21 at 7 p.m. at their new History Center. This will the first meeting held at the society’s new location at 1303 S. Hamilton, Sullivan. In June of 1953, Shuman and his brother’s, John and Paul, along with their father, Charles B. Shuman floated down the Kaskaskia River from Findlay to Chester on the Mississippi in their wooden outboard motor boat, “Ida”. Dalton City All Wheel Extravaganza

SOV Trivia Night Fundraiser

•July 13, 2022• There will be a trivia night fundraiser for the Sullivan-Okaw Valley football team on Friday, July 22 at the Sullivan American Legion. Doors open at 5:30 pm with dinner at 6 pm and trivia starting at 7 pm. All participants must be 21 or older. Moultrie County Retired Teachers Association Meets

•July 6, 2022• The Moultrie County Retired Teachers Association met recently at the First United Methodist Church, Sullivan, IL. President Jane McKown welcomed members and guests before leading the Pledge of Allegiance. Connie Dunscomb introduced Jim Barr, representing the Illinois Retired Teachers Association. He announced that Addison Graham, Sullivan, and a Special Education major at Illinois State University, was awarded the Area 5 State Scholarship. LLC to Offer New Crime Scene Technician Program

Sullivan celebrates America’s 250th

The annual Fourth of July parade kicked off a fun filled day of celebration hosted by the Sullivan American Legion Saturday.  Wyman Park was the next destination for the always entertaining watermelon eating contest, turtle races and sack races. At dusk, an amazing fireworks display capped off the festivities. More photos can be found on page 12.
