Moultrie County Residents Vote In Election Primary

•July 6, 2022• Moultrie County residents had the opportunity to exercise their right to vote last Tuesday, June 28. Residents cast their votes for county officials and congressional and state officials. The results that came out of this recent election are unofficial will not be finalized until Tuesday, July 12. The unofficial results for County Clerk were recorded as Lisa Ozier 1,388 votes and Linda Qualls at 1,392 votes as of last Tuesday night. Bethany Author Publishes First Book

•July 6, 2022• by Crystal Reed NP Writer Denis Durham of Bethany has published his first book. He stated that the story is an allegory of the family court system in the United States. The book contains musical elements and references to judges and attorneys. It took Durham two years to write the book which was published in April. The characters in the book represent him and his two children, Ellie and Evan. $550,000 Appropriation Provides FFA Dues

•July 6, 2022• The Illinois Department of Agriculture (IDOA) announced today that Future Farmers of America (FFA) dues for every student taking agriculture education classes across the state will be covered starting this fall. The $550,000 appropriation is spearheaded by State Senator Doris Turner. FFA is a national organization for young adults interested in leadership and agriculture. It has been a priority of the Pritzker administration to make farming and agriculture more accessible, and these dollars help to diversify the make-up of the FFA organization. Full-time undergraduate students who have earned a minimum grade-point average of 3.700 and above are named to the President’s List. Doris Ann Bartanen Doris Ann Bartanen, loving wife of Ronald Dale Bartanen, went home to be with the Lord on July 1, 2022. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 6, 2022, at McMullin-Young Funeral Home, Sullivan. Visitation will be held an hour prior to the service, Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery, Sullivan. Memorials may be made to the Highway Church of Christ in Sullivan. Sullivan celebrates America’s 250th

The annual Fourth of July parade kicked off a fun filled day of celebration hosted by the Sullivan American Legion Saturday.  Wyman Park was the next destination for the always entertaining watermelon eating contest, turtle races and sack races. At dusk, an amazing fireworks display capped off the festivities. More photos can be found on page 12.
