25 Years Ago This Week The Sullivan City Council approved creation of a third Tax Increment Financing (TIF) district. The district was to encompass 25 3/4 acres included a new 36 housing unit subdivision proposed by Ron and Sharon White in addition to the Sullivan sewer plant and Patterson Road, which the city planned to upgrade with its share of the TIF monies generated. Valedictorians and salutatorians were announced for Sullivan, Lovington and Bethany high schools. Lovington High School’s valedictorian was Shaun Casteel and salutatorian was Anna Creviston. Bethany High School valedictorian was Raven Freeland and Kelsie Buker as salutatorian. … Read More

ALAH School Board approves MOU for COVID Sick Days, Extends Benefits to All Staff Members, Regardless of Vaccination Status

After saying the pledge and taking roll call, those who wanted took a tour of the high school greenhouse. There were some projects currently in progress, and it was reported that the horticulture class has been working on flowers for graduation. •May 25, 2022• by Crystal Reed NP Writer Sullivan High School held an outdoor commencement ceremony for the class of 2022 on Sunday, May 22. This year’s class numbered 67 graduates total. Senior Class President Alyssa Thompson gave the welcome address. Thompson said that high school in general was something she didn’t want to do again. She said because they were unsure about when tests and papers were due, the class was unable to enjoy their time there. Also, their sophomore year was cut in half by COVID-19. Ash Grove to Celebrate 190 years

•May 25, 2022• by Crystal Reed NP Writer Ash Grove Christian Church in Windsor will celebrate their 190th anniversary with a worship celebration and potluck dinner Sunday, June 5. According to a book on the church compiled in celebration of the 150th anniversary, John Storm, Sr. was the founder of the congregation. He was born in Kentucky in 1793 and came to Illinois with his family in 1830 at the age of 37. The family settled on the W.W. Landreth Graduates from Maryville

•May 25, 2022• Hannah Landreth of Bethany has completed requirements for a degree at Maryville College in Maryville, Tennessee. Landreth graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree and majored in Finance/Accounting while at the College. Approximately 180 members of the Class of 2022 participated in commencement exercises held May 7. Sullivan celebrates America’s 250th

The annual Fourth of July parade kicked off a fun filled day of celebration hosted by the Sullivan American Legion Saturday.  Wyman Park was the next destination for the always entertaining watermelon eating contest, turtle races and sack races. At dusk, an amazing fireworks display capped off the festivities. More photos can be found on page 12.
