Lovington School District hired a grade school principal. Body of Arthur Man Recovered from Water

•May 18, 2022• A 33 year old man’s body was recovered from the water at Bo Wood. On Friday, May 13 at 10:47 pm the Moultrie County Sheriff’s Office received a phone call from Christian County 911 about a person in the water at Bo Wood. The sheriff’s office dispatched deputies to the scene and notified Coles County Communication to dispatch the Moultrie County Dive Team. Mutual aid was requested from the Shelby County Dive Team. … Read More

Board Approves Ordinance Prohibiting Wind Energy

•May 18, 2022• by Crystal Reed NP Writer The Moultrie County Board unanimously approved an ordinance prohibiting wind farms in Moultrie County during their regular meeting Thursday. Board member Elizabeth Houser was absent. The board voted to accept the resignation of Larry Baker from the Moultrie County Board and as County Board Chairman. Okaw Valley Holds Graduation Ceremony for Class of 2022

•May 18, 2022• by Crystal Reed NP Writer The Okaw Valley school district held graduation ceremonies for the class of 2022 on Saturday, May 14, in the high school gymnasium. This year’s co-valedictorians are Evelyn Ashley and Savannah Hagerman and salutatorian is Amelia Landreth. The class motto is “In ourselves our future lies.” Superintendent Kent Stauder presented Hall of Fame inductees during the ceremony. Library to Kickoff Summer Reading

•May 18, 2022• The Elizabeth Titus Memorial Library is preparing to kickoff summer reading with a part on June 3 from 10 am to 2 pm. This is free and open to the public. There will be an inflatable obstacle course and slide, sno cones, s’more making and a craft. This year’s summer reading theme is Read Beyond the Beaten Path. Summer reading officially starts on Wednesday, June 1. Participants can start registering on Tuesday, May 24 and there will be open registration on June 3 at the party. Sullivan celebrates America’s 250th

The annual Fourth of July parade kicked off a fun filled day of celebration hosted by the Sullivan American Legion Saturday.  Wyman Park was the next destination for the always entertaining watermelon eating contest, turtle races and sack races. At dusk, an amazing fireworks display capped off the festivities. More photos can be found on page 12.
