Illinois Unemployment Falls to 6%: Employers Add 40,900 Jobs in October

•November 24, 2021• By Peter Hancock Capitol News Illinois phancock @ capitolnewsillinois.com The Illinois unemployment rate fell two-tenths of a percentage point in October to 6 percent as employers added 40,900 jobs during the month, the Illinois Department of Employment Security and the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics said Thursday. According to the preliminary data, the industry sectors with the biggest job gains during the month were professional and business services, which added 17,700 jobs; leisure and hospitality, which added 8,400 jobs; and trade, transportation and utilities, which gained 7,700 jobs. … Read More

25 Years Ago This Week The Sullivan City Council rejected the idea of underwriting radio broadcasts of Sullivan High School basketball games. The council had previously tabled a request from Lake Land College for $150 to sponsor the broadcast of SHS basketball games on the college’s radio station. Moultrie County United Way President Mickey Hrvol presented members of the Shemamo Girl Scout Council with a check. The Girl Scouts are one of 16 groups or agencies that receive funding from the Moultrie County United Way. The Lincoln Trail Boy Scouts also received a check. … Read More

Sullivan Elementary School recently received 60 backpacks filled with school supplies through Amazon’s “Together, We Give Back to School” campaign. End of the Line Tackle & Bait, an Amazon delivery partner, nominated Sullivan Elementary for the program, and the school’s submission was selected to receive the donation. Pictured (left to right) are Cameron Martin, Taylor Lilly, James Martin, Marla Martin and Angela McRill following the July 27 delivery.
