•November 17, 2021• The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Wolf Creek State Park will hold the 31st Annual Lake Shelbyville Deer Hunt for People with Disabilities during the first firearm deer season on November 19-21, 2021. The hunt will be conducted in portions of recreation areas at Lake Shelbyville that are closed for the season. Dear Editor: Recently, a former resident of Sullivan, Natalie Mauck McDowell, was killed in a car accident that simply didn’t have to happen. She and her daughter-in-law, Sarah, were hit by a person who was ticketed for not stopping at a stop sign. What happened to that good ol’ workhorse ‘accommodating’?” My timeworn Webster’s New World Dictionary (published in 1994) includes “accommodative” as an adjectival form of “accommodate,” meaning “willing to fit in with someone’s wishes or needs.” That’s essentially the definition of “accommodating.” … Read More

The 18-year-old Horn, the son of Chester and Marjorie Horn, was one of four national finalists with his FFA-supervised agricultural experience (SAE) in turfgrass management. •November 17, 2021• by Crystal Reed NP Writer The Second Annual Anglers Tribute to Veterans was held Saturday, November 13, on Lake Shelbyville. This year the number of veterans participating was 24; last year, which was the first year for the event, 12 veterans went out on the water. The playing of the military branch songs was held, and those veterans in attendance were encouraged to stand during their branch’s song. County Board Approves Retaining Services for Administration and Reporting of ARPA Funds

•November 17, 2021• by Crystal Reed NP Writer The County Board approved retaining the services of Bellwether for administration and reporting of American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds. They are asking for $10,000 per payment of ARPA funds. ARPA ad hoc committee chair, Stephanie Helmuth, said that the county has received their first payment of the funds which was $1.4 million. In total the county will receive $2.8 million. She said they hope to be able to disperse the funds beginning in February. “Together, We Give Back to School”

Sullivan Elementary School recently received 60 backpacks filled with school supplies through Amazon’s “Together, We Give Back to School” campaign. End of the Line Tackle & Bait, an Amazon delivery partner, nominated Sullivan Elementary for the program, and the school’s submission was selected to receive the donation. Pictured (left to right) are Cameron Martin, Taylor Lilly, James Martin, Marla Martin and Angela McRill following the July 27 delivery.
