25 Years Ago This Week The campus of Sullivan High School would remain open over the lunch hour. The Sullivan school board approved the amended recommendations of a committee appointed to study the feasibility of a closed high school campus–a practice that had been debated by the board over several months as a means of asserting more school control over students’ noontime behavior. The Sullivan City Council adopted a street improvement ordinance. City Council Approves Acceptance of Right of Ways

•October 20, 2021• by Crystal Reed NP Writer The Sullivan City Council approved the acceptance of two right of ways during their meeting on Monday. The approval of the two right of ways means that the Bruder Tank TARP Project that was approved during the September 13 meeting can proceed. Voting yes to the acceptance of right of ways was Mayor Richard Glazebrook, Commissioner Doug Booker and Commissioner Mike Fowler. Commissioner Abbey Sherwood voted no on both and Commissioner Chuck Woodworth was absent. House Blessing Held for Newest Habitat House

Completion of the home was celebrated Friday, October 8, with a house blessing ceremony. During the ceremony, a Holy Bible and an American flag were presented to the new homeowner Tammy Martin and her sons Tim and Trey. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 9, 2021 at McMullin-Young Funeral Home, Sullivan. •October 6, 2021• Volleyball After winning its first two games of the year, the Sullivan volleyball team lost at home to Clinton in a Central Illinois matchup Thursday. The Redskins won the first set 25-18, but the Maroons battled back to win the next two sets, 25-7, 25-18. The loss was Sullivan’s 20th on the season. “Together, We Give Back to School”

Sullivan Elementary School recently received 60 backpacks filled with school supplies through Amazon’s “Together, We Give Back to School” campaign. End of the Line Tackle & Bait, an Amazon delivery partner, nominated Sullivan Elementary for the program, and the school’s submission was selected to receive the donation. Pictured (left to right) are Cameron Martin, Taylor Lilly, James Martin, Marla Martin and Angela McRill following the July 27 delivery.
