Another win one, lose one week for the Redskins

•January 21, 2026• by E. Scott England The Sullivan Redskins still hold a winning record of 10-8 (3-2 in conference play). They play every game with tenacity, led by their enthusiastic coach Spencer Plank. Their record is somewhat misgiving though as many of those losses have been close games. Both of those were conference games, bringing the ladies’ conference record to 6-0. Their success this season has earned them the number one seed for the upcoming LPC tournament. Sullivan receives housing grant

•January 21, 2026• by Sharon Barricklow Homeowners in Sullivan will have a chance for their homes to receive needed maintenance assistance after the city received a $650,000 Housing Redevelopment Grant through the Coles County Regional Planning Commission. Mayor Mike Mossman announced the grant at the city’s first meeting of 2026 on January 12. “This grant doesn’t have any limitations as far as parts of town,” Mossman said. “We’ll need to get a plan in place for applications.”  The housing grants can be used for weatherization, heating and cooling systems, and other improvements or repairs for needy homeowners. 2016 Winning has never felt so good. “I haven’t seen the kids smile that big in a while,” said Sullivan girls basketball coach Amanda Glazebrook. The smiles came after the Lady Redskins stopped a 14-game losing streak with a 49-36 victory over Argenta-Oreana Thursday night. The libraries in Lovington, Bethany, and Sullivan are among four area libraries that have been awarded $4,000 grants under the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA).
