•August 25 2021• by Ellen Ferrara NP Writer The Relay for Life is one of the Cancer Society’s major fundraisers, but Covid has prevented the relay from being held for the past two years. With limited funds to restart their program, the Moultrie and Coles county relays have combined resources and created the Coles-Moultrie County Relay for Life. Their first fundraiser was held Saturday, August 21, at Mattoon in Peterson Park. City Council Tables Bruder Tank TARP Project

•August 25 2021• by Crystal Reed NP Writer The City Council tabled the Bruder Tank TARP Project during Monday night’s meeting. The business is planning to expand their Sullivan operations by adding an additional facility at 1201 S. Hamilton Street. The project was to be paid for using a $225,000 state legislative grant and $12,045.82 from TIF fund. City Administrator Dan Flannell reminded the council there had been a strategic planning meeting designating the grant for the city building; however, Mayor Richard Glazebrook noted that they wanted the money to go into infrastructures such as roads. Cruise Night on the Square

•August 25 2021• Sullivan Street Machine Association will be presenting a cruise night on the square in Sullivan on Saturday, September 4 starting at 3 pm. Registration is $10. All makes, models and years are welcome. There will be over $1,500 in door prizes as well as bounce houses, goodie bags and a cruise route. 25 Years Ago This Week Lucas Parrish and Whitney Stinson won the titles of Little Mister and Miss Bethany for 1996. Local dogs were in danger from a new outbreak of deadly parvovirus. Dr. Gregory Mauck at the Kaskaskia Valley Animal Hospital had seen an epidemic of the disease over a period of two weeks. Former Bethany resident Gale Keown won three gold medals in the Senior Olympics. Keown, of Maryville, Tenn. won the 100,200 and the 400 meter races.
