Donovan Inducted into Phi Kappa Phi

•July 14, 2021• Erin Donovan of Sullivan was recently initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective all-discipline collegiate honor society. Donovan was initiated at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Donovan is among approximately 30,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni to be initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year. Membership is by invitation only and requires nomination and approval by a chapter. Only the top 10 percent of seniors and 7.5 percent of juniors are eligible for membership. Virginia Gillenwater Virginia Swango Gillenwater, 85, of Forsyth, formerly of Mattoon and Sullivan, Illinois, passed away Thursday, July 8, 2021 at Hickory Point Christian Village. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Monday, July 12, 2021 at Reed Funeral Home, Sullivan with Pastor Grant Wade officiating. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until service time. Burial will be in the Greenhill Cemetery, Sullivan. The family will receive visitors at Sullivan First Christian Church following the interment. Rena’s Rally Benefit

•July 7, 2021• The Rena’s Rally Benefit will be held at the fairgrounds in Arthur on July 23-24. There will be a Co-ed softball tournament with concessions. A Kids Corner will be open 10 am to 5 pm. 25 Years Ago This Week Zak Horn, son of Chester and Marjorie Horn of Sullivan, won the Agri-Entrepreneurship Award from the Sullivan FFA Chapter in recognition of his achievement in entrepreneurship. Sullivan Elementary School recently received 60 backpacks filled with school supplies through Amazon’s “Together, We Give Back to School” campaign. End of the Line Tackle & Bait, an Amazon delivery partner, nominated Sullivan Elementary for the program, and the school’s submission was selected to receive the donation.
