One little boy in Sullivan is making the holidays brighter for those residents. Harrison Golden, 5, and his family were quarantined in November and to occupy their time they talked about Christmas cards and how those in nursing homes will be isolated this holiday. Lida Hess Lida E. Hess, 88, of Sullivan, passed away, 7:40 p.m. Saturday, December 19, 2020, at Decatur Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 22, 2020, at McMullin-Young Funeral Home, Sullivan. Visitation will be held one-hour prior the services. Face masks are suggested and please practice social distancing for the services. Burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery, Sullivan. Memorials may be made to Sullivan Fire and Rescue. 25 Years Ago This Week Veteran Moultrie County State’s Attorney Paul Lee Stone is seeking to return to the office he held for 13 years. Stone announced that he will seek the Democratic nomination for State’s Attorney. Public defender Tim J. Willis has filed for the GOP nomination as Moultrie County state’s attorney. Gale Coil, a first term Democrat has not yet announced whether he will seek re-election. The Lovington school board approved a $1,033,925 tax levy, representing a 6.4 percent revenue increase. The levy for taxes payable in 1996 includes revenue generated by increased assessed valuation and new construction. … Read More

First COVID-19 Vaccines Arrive in Illinois

Approximately 43,000 doses of the vaccine manufactured by the drug company Pfizer were delivered to the state’s Strategic National Stockpile. Chicago also received a direct shipment from the federal government Monday, while health departments in Cook, Lake, Madison and St. Clair counties will receive shipments this week as well, according to the governor’s office. … Read More

Sullivan Elementary School recently received 60 backpacks filled with school supplies through Amazon’s “Together, We Give Back to School” campaign. End of the Line Tackle & Bait, an Amazon delivery partner, nominated Sullivan Elementary for the program, and the school’s submission was selected to receive the donation.
