•October 21, 2020• Two Sullivan Lions Club members were awarded long-time membership chevrons by Lions District 1-M Governor, Bill Wallpe, of Danville. Steve Mayberry was honored for his 30 years of membership, and Robert V. Elder was recognized for being a 55 year Lion. Sullivan Lions Club is active in contributing to vision and hearing assistance for needy local residents, as well as the food pantry and elementary school weekend food program.They also donate to local youth activities, and have presented several items to Wyman Park. … Read More

25 Years Ago This Week Moultrie County’s 740 businesses generated more than $891,000 in sales tax revenue for city and county governments during fiscal year 1995. According to the annual report from Illinois Dept of Revenue, the county’s businesses also paid $3.1 million in the state’s 5 percent sales tax. Sullivan (with 274 businesses) and Arthur with 228 businesses were the county’s most prosperous communities, generating municipal sales tax receipts for the year of $398,138 and $257,114 respectively ($90,069 of that from the portion of Arthur in Moultrie County). … Read More

•October 21, 2020• By Jason Brown NP Sports The Sullivan boys’ cross country team placed last with 106 points in the 7th Annual Central Illinois Conference meet at Forest Park in Shelbyville Thursday, Oct. 15. Shelbyville won the meet with 47 points, and St. Teresa took second with 52 points. For the Redskins, senior Chase McClure earned all-conference honors with a ninth place finish and a season-best time of 17:14.0. Connie West Connie S. West, 73, of Sullivan, passed away at 2:58 p.m. Tuesday, October 13, 2020, at St. Mary’s hospital in Decatur. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 17, 2020, at McMullin-Young Funeral Home in Sullivan. Burial was in Pea Cemetery in Sullivan. Memorials may be made to the Bethany Fire and Ambulance Service. Connie was born February 26, 1947, in Decatur, a daughter of Hershel and Agnes (Myers) Weaver. She was a lifelong resident of Sullivan where she graduated from Sullivan High school. … Read More
