25 Years Ago This Week A Bethany man remained in critical condition after his farm tractor was struck by a locomotive. James, A. Sharp, 63, of rural Bethany was being treated in the intensive care unit of St. Mary’s Hospital. According to a report from Chris Sims of the Moultrie County Sheriff’s Department, Sharp’s tractor was traveling north on county road 2.25 E south of US Route 121 towards an Illinois Central Gulf railroad crossing while ICG train #8032 was approaching the crossing at 35 mph. Bethany House Fire Results In Death Of Local Child

Alaina Nicole Jarnagin, 5, of Bethany was pronounced dead at St. Mary’s Hospital at 3:02 p.m. According to Macon County Coroner Michael Day, the child was found unresponsive in her bedroom. Drew Kirk Creates, Plans and Places Signage For Water Trail

•August 26, 2020• While many people enjoy fishing and other watersports on Lake Shelbyville, Drew Kirk hopes to get people out in kayaks and canoes with the completion of his Eagle Scout Project. Between 7 and 9 a.m. some twenty people formed their portable lawn chairs into a tight semi-circle while enjoying coffee, chocolate chip cookies and the almost lost art of gentle conversation. Alumni Banquet Canceled

•August 26, 2020• The 2020 Sullivan High School Alumni Banquet has been cancelled for this year, according to a release by the Sullivan Alumni Association, long-time sponsors of the event. The banquet was to be held in October at the 1225 Building in Sullivan and would have celebrated all graduates but especially the 50th anniversary of the class of 1970. That celebration is moved to the 2021 banquet. The Association felt that due to the well-known possible corona virus dangers inherent in any group gathering, they did not want to place any of the alumni or their families in jeopardy. … Read More

Moultrie County Remains at Warning Level for 2nd Straight Week •August 26, 2020• For the week ending August 21, The Moultrie County Health Department (MCHD) has confirmed a total of 16 new cases of COVID-19. These individuals range from 6-90 years in age and include individuals related to the Sullivan Rehabilitation and Health Care Center (SRHCC). Public health officials have notified all close contacts. On Wednesday, August 12, SRHCC identified 20 Moultrie County residents and staff who were positive with COVID-19.
