SHS Girls’ Track Team Places in Meet

•May 8, 2019• The Sullivan girls’ track and field team placed fifth with 78 points in the Central Illinois Conference meet at Meridian High School last Thursday. Esther Miller earned an all-conference honor with her first place triple jump of 34 feet 7 inches. Miller also placed second in the 400 meter at 1:04.13 and fourth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.36. Several other Redskins also scored points. The Three Morels of Moultrie County

Look up at the Sun •May 8, 2019• By Charlie McCarthy for News Progress Once upon a time there were three morels living under a very large tree at the edge of an old wooded area in Sullivan. Mushroom hunter Mortimer Snerd was coming back through the timber and almost tripped over the 10 inch morel in the photograph. Snerd’s search continued until he also found the eight inch and four inch morels within steps of the major find. C.E.F.S. Gets State Farm Grant

•May 8, 2019• C.E.F.S. is set to receive a grant of $17,500 from State Farm. The funds will be used to support one-on-one counseling and workshops covering topics such as student loan debt, budgeting, credit counseling, purchasing a home and home maintenance. Timberwolves Baseball Team Splits Wins in a Busy Week

•May 8, 2019• By Jason Brown NP Sports Editor In another busy week, the Okaw Valley baseball team played four games in five days. The Timberwolves defeated Arcola and Argenta-Oreana but lost to Decatur Lutheran and Paris. Monday evening at Argenta-Oreana, OV needed an extra inning to plate the eventual winning run in an 8-inning pitcher’s duel. In the top of the eighth inning, freshman Cale Roley singled in the winning run, and Dalton McGill pitched a 5-hit complete-game shutout and struck out 10 batters for the win. WSS Softball Team Continues Their Winning Ways

•May 8, 2019• By Jason Brown NP Sports Editor The Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg softball team stayed undefeated on the season by blowing out Nokomis 10-0 Monday. WSS also defeated Farina South Central 10-0 Friday and Neoga 8-2 last Wednesday. Against Nokomis, WSS scored three runs in the first inning and five in the second inning on its way to the 10-0 win. Calla Roney pitched six innings for the win and gave up no runs on three hits and two walks. She struck out 13. Coach of the Year and Hall of Fame for SHS’s Sheri McCain

•May 8, 2019• By Jason Brown NP Sports Editor Illinois Basketball Coaches Association announced its District Coaches of the Year last week. Sullivan’s head girls’ basketball coach Sheri McCain was the Class 2A District 14 Coach of the Year. Under McCain, Sullivan earned its second straight trip to Class 2A Sweet 16 and finished with a 26-4 record. That will not be the only honor McCain will receive while at the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame Banquet Saturday at Illinois State University. … Read More
