•April 24, 2019• The American Legion Crawl Luau Style which benefits the 100th celebration begins at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, May 18 leaving Sullivan Post 68 at 1 p.m. The Sullivan Crawl visits the Lovington American Legion first and then travels to the Bethany American Legion and on to Findlay American Legion. From Findlay the Legion Crawl Luau continues to the Windsor American Legion and returns to the Sullivan Post at approximately 6 p.m. Grilled burgers and dogs will be available to purchase upon return to Sullivan Post 68. •April 24, 2019• By Jason Brown NP Sports Editor The Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg softball team shut out two more teams to stay undefeated on the year at 25-0-1. Monday night, Megan Schlechte pitched a no-hitter and hit a grand slam to help the Hatchets shutout St. Elmo/Brownstown 15-0. In the second inning, the Hatchets score 12 runs to blow the game open. Paul Powell Paul Leroy Powell, 69, of Sullivan passed away April 17, 2019 from a prolonged illness. Memorial graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 25 in Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield, Ill. McMullin-Young Funeral Home in Sullivan is in care of arrangements. Paul was born June 4, 1949 in Roswell, New Mexico and was raised in California. He was a Vietnam veteran and proudly served his country in the United States Army. He married Mary Christine Plockman of Moreno Valley, California July 11, 1971. Paul enjoyed race cars, video games, painting, gardening and grilling outdoors. … Read More

•April 24, 2019• Central Illinois’ premier southern gospel trio, State of Grace, will perform at 6 p.m. April 27 at First Baptist Church in Sullivan. Based in Sullivan, the trio is a popular singing group. Vocalists Glenda Weldy, Della Eccles and Gary Perry all grew up in central Illinois and all began performing at early ages. OVHS Softball Faced a Week of Strong Hitting Teams

The Timberwolves lost to Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond Monday, Westville Saturday, Fisher Saturday and Arcola last Tuesday. In the first game of the doubleheader Saturday, OV lost to Fisher 16-1, after scoring its lone run in the first inning. Grace Bunfill was 2-for-3 and Bella Benning was 1-for-2 with a run scored. Linda V. Williamson Linda V. Williamson, 80, of Sullivan passed away Friday, April 19, 2019 at Sullivan Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 22, 2019 at McMullin-Young Funeral Home, Sullivan. Visitation will be held one hour before the services at the funeral home in Sullivan. Burial will be in Penn Township Cemetery, Moweaqua. Memorials may be made to the Sullivan Health Care Activity Department or to the Fresenius Dialysis Unit Route 36, Decatur. Redskins Baseball Team Defeats Central A&M

•April 17, 2019• By Jason Brown NP Sports Editor The Sullivan baseball team defeated Central A&M but lost to Altamont and St. Teresa this past week. Against St. Teresa Friday, a pitchers’ duel put the Redskins ahead 1-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning when the Bulldogs plated three runs for the eventual 3-1 win. For Sullivan, Dalton Rogers pitched six innings in the loss. He gave up two earned runs on five hits and two walks. He struck out 10.
