Three Straight Wins for Baseball Timberwolves

•April 17, 2019• By Jason Brown NP Sports Editor The Okaw Valley baseball team rattled off three straight wins this past week. OV defeated Shelbyville 9-1, Cerro Gordo/Bement 11-0 and Neoga 5-0. Saturday against Shelbyville, OV took advantage of six runs in the second inning to help pull away from the Rams. The Timberwolves tacked on three more runs in the next two innings for the eventual 9-1 win. Kadan Miller and Cale Roley each recorded two hits, and Dalton McGill, Camden Coleman and Roley each walked twice. Cameron Sharp and Roley each had two RBIs and McGill had one. … Read More

Knights Bring Big Bats to Beat Arcola

•April 17, 2019• By Jason Brown NP Sports Editor The Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond baseball team defeated Blue Ridge and Arcola but lost two to Casey-Westfield in a doubleheader Saturday. Against Arcola on a windy day, the Knights blew a 5-4 game open with seven runs in the top of the seventh inning for the eventual 12-4 win. Ryan Yeakley picked up the win in relief, pitching two 2/3 innings. He gave up no runs on two hits and no walks. He struck out five. •April 17, 2019• The Arthur Lovington Atwood Hammond CUSD #305 Board of Education is announcing the hiring of Shannon Cheek as the next superintendent of schools starting July 1, 2019 to succeed Kenny Schwengel, who is retiring at the end of the school year. After completing a nationwide executive search through the Illinois Association of School Boards (IASB), Cheek was selected from a pool of 32 applicants. •April 10, 2019• By Jason Brown NP Sports Editor The Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond softball team finished the week 2-1 and started the season 1-0 in the Little Okaw Valley Conference this past week. ALAH defeated MacArthur 11-1 in five innings Saturday to improve it record to 7-3 overall. The Knights scored runs in the second, third, fourth and fifth innings, including four runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Sullivan Boys’ Track Ties for Second at Quadrangular Meet

•April 10, 2019• By Jason Brown NP Sports Editor The Sullivan boys’ track and field team competed in the 49th annual Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond Boys Invite Saturday and a quadrangular at Shelbyville last Tuesday. The Redskins placed ninth out of 15 teams in the ALAH Invite with 25 points. Tuscola won the meet with 86 points. Five Redskins placed in the top ten. Sullivan Area Ministerial Association Begins Sunday Outreach Services

Services began at Aspen Creek at 1:30 p.m., 2 p.m. at Courtyard Estates, 2:30 p.m.at Eastwood Terrace and concluded at 2:30 p.m. at Sullivan Health Care and Rehabilitation.
