Best Launches Howard Center at Merrill College of Journalism

•April 10, 2019• Kathy Best has honored her profession and Sullivan becoming the first director of the Howard Center for Investigative Journalism at the University of Maryland. The Sullivan High School graduate and daughter of Best Newspapers founders Bob and Marion Best joins the Merrill College of Journalism at the University of Maryland this spring. Best will launch the Howard Center, a multidisciplinary program funded by the Scripps Howard Foundation in honor of Roy W. Howard. Pritzker a bill aimed at resolving a conflict in eastern Illinois over which unit of local government has authority to control zoning for wind farms. House Bill 2298 provides that only a county may enact zoning regulations for wind farms in the rural parts of a county, outside the zoning jurisdiction of incorporated cities, even in counties that don’t have countywide zoning regulations. Community Band Open to Musicians

•April 10, 2019• The Sullivan Summer Community Band is preparing to kick off a second season of performances and local musicians are invited to join. Community Band Director Shaun Schaefers emphasized the community band will be open to incoming ninth-12th grade high school students as well as any adult community members who play an instrument. “Last year we had 40 participants with an even mix of student and community members,” Schaefers said, encouraging more musicians to participate this year. Lovington Rabies Clinic

•April 10, 2019• The annual Lovington Rabies Clinic will be held at Lovington Fire Department noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 4. Fees are charged for one-year rabies vaccinations. Other vaccinations available for dogs are K9 Virus and Bordetella (kennel cough). Additional vaccinations available for felines are Feline Virus and Feline Leukemia. Microchipping is available for a fee. County tags required for all canines in Moultrie County are available. Two Wins for OV Baseball Last Week

OV defeated Tolono Unity last Tuesday and Argenta-Oreana last Wednesday but lost to Greenfield Saturday. Against Tolono Unity, OV scored one run in the first for the early 1-0 lead. The Timberwolves took advantage of five Tolono errors to score runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth inning for the eventual 5-1 win.
