Lake Land College students Michael Mriscin and Chandler Smith have found ways to stay connected and help out their peers. As work study students at Lake Land College’s radio station WLKL, Mriscin and Smith were unable to perform their usual duties due to the social distancing measures. •April 8, 2020• Illinois Farm Bureau® (IFB) is accepting applications for its Illinois Veterinary Education and Training (IVET) loan program. Loans are available to students attending any accredited college of veterinary medicine in the U.S. and who are focused on Illinois food animal medicine. The IVET Program helps offset the high cost of veterinary education. The program loans up to $40,000 to as many as three veterinary students each year. Loans are made over a period of 2 to 3 years. Rich Voltz were appointed steering committee for the Sullivan Community Education Foundation in Sept. 1994. The Foundation is now established with the initial Sullivan Foundation Board including: Marion Best, Nancy Elder, Tom Hargis, Ron Harshman, Dr. Dean McLaughlin, Joe Pound, Paul Stone, Sr. and Rich Voltz. The Lovington Panther baseball team kicks off their season at Central A&M as the first consolidation season with Arthur begins. •April 8, 2020• The Sullivan Chamber and Economic Development is working along with the city of Sullivan to help with emergency funding for local businesses. “The Disaster Recovery Loan applications take about ten minutes to complete with an anticipated ten day turnaround,” SCED Director Laurrie Minor explained, noting there are businesses in Sullivan who have begun the application process. “This is the time of year when our local businesses are ramping up for the season and they can’t do it under the circumstances,” she emphasized.
