•April 1, 2020• By Jason Brown NP Sports The Sullivan Lady Redskins defeated the Lady Rams of Shelbyville to take eighth in the Okaw Valley Tournament in 2005, but dropped four other games this week. Sullivan took a six-point lead into the half and tacked on one more in the third quarter. In the fourth, the Lady Redskins spread the lead open for the 48-37 victory. •April 1, 2020• Supervisor of Assessments Lori Barringer’s office in the Moultrie County Courthouse adjusted operations procedures with public access limited to their offices. Regarding all Exemptions other than Leasehold (Senior Freeze, Disabled Veterans and Disabled Persons) the Assessments office has decided to postpone mailing those forms at this time. “We will mail them as soon as the Courthouse opens back up to the public or May 1, 2020 – whichever occurs first.” Supervisor of Assessments Barringer explained. •April 1, 2020• Moultrie County has been issued a final property assessment equalization factor of 1.0000, according to David Harris, Director of the Illinois Department of Revenue. The property assessment equalization factor, often called the “multiplier”, is the method used to achieve uniform property assessments among counties, as required by law. This equalization is particularly important because some of the state’s 6,600 local taxing districts overlap into two or more counties (e.g. school districts, junior college districts, fire protection districts). •April 1, 2020• Thanks to 22 Sullivan sewing volunteers 200 protective masks were delivered to Decatur Memorial Hospital on March 27. While others were fretting about what might happen next with the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic Margi Gaither made something good happen. “I called DMH to ask if they needed some hand made masks,” Gaither said. “Without hesitation she said yes.” That was the beginning of “Project Masks” in Moultrie County. 25 Years Ago This Week Bethany girls’ basketball coach Doug McCausland will have a familiar face with him when he coaches the East All-Star team at the Edinburg Lions Sixth Annual Girls All-Star Basketball game. Joining Coach McCausland is Filly Erin Parsons, a senior, who averaged 13 points and seven rebounds a game last season. Arthur’s Emilee Monahan is also on the East team.
