2015 Moultrie County Public Health and Safety Committee met on November 4th, with chair Arlene Aschermann leading the discussion on the E911 system, which is at the stage where the individual mapping addresses for the municipalities are entered. The committee toured the Charleston 911 communication headquarters last month, receiving an update on the completion of the cooperative Moultrie-Coles County emergency system. The Lakeland College Dental Hygiene Program offered free dental cleanings through the month of November for Veterans Appreciation Month.  … Read More

Taxes, cats and pennies at city council meeting

•November 12, 2025• by Sharon Barricklow The Sullivan City Council debuted a new ordinance for public body comment periods at their meeting Monday night, limiting the time to 30 minutes total and giving citizens up to three minutes each to ask questions or make comments.  “I would hope people would be respectful of other people and limit their comments,” said Mayor Mike Mossman in explaining the new rules. Linda Marie Lowe Beavers passed from this world on October 12, 2025, at her residence in Chula Vista, California, surrounded by family, and entered into the Lord’s presence, where she will be reunited with her beloved husband, Roger Lee Beavers, who preceded her into heaven in 2013. Linda and her sisters grew up in Sullivan, Illinois. They were especially close to their loving grandmothers, Maude Hennigh and Helen Lowe, and spent a lot of time with them after their mother passed away.
