In four games this season, the Redskins have combined for a total of 96 points. Friday night during the Okaw Valley homecoming game against Shelbyville, SOV put 40 points on the board, but lost its fourth-straight game, 56-40. Monday night, Sullivan won a triangular meet at Altamont with a team score of 164. Logan Westjohn tied for medalist with a score of 38. Drew Rogers followed with a 39, and Camden Dwyer shot a 42. The theme for homecoming is Decades with Oct. 4 parade day and Oct 5 dance and coronation. Superintendent Ted Walk reported total enrollment for the entire school district is up five percent. Cindi Reed, pharmacist and owner of Oakwood Apothecaries , presented a plan to the county board insurance committee that could take co-pays for maintenance generic medications to $5.00 if employees use Oakwood or Sullivan Pharmacy. She explained under the existing Pharmacy Benefit Manager used as part of the county’s partially self funded health benefit program she discovered the county had lost $11,000 in her review of 223 claims. … Read More

25 Years Ago This Week Dr. Carl Erickson, retired Sullivan veterinarian, got to sit in his living room to watch his Kansas cousin in the Miss Teen USA pageant. Erickson’s cousin Melissa was second runner-up. Sullivan school board members unanimously approved the design for the new elementary school as submitted by a Springfield architectural firm.  The 56,000 square foot building is roughly a cross shape with classrooms in each of the three wings and a skylight in the center.  The fourth asymmetrical wing would house a gym, offices, the cafeteria, a stage and other facilities.  The new structure will cost … Read More
