25 Years Ago This Week Sullivan Alum Derik Eaton was hired to teach driver education and as head track coach. He succeeds Cliff Dobbs as driver ed teacher. Dobbs opted for early retirement. Wes Bland of Virginia, MN caught a 16-pound catfish while fishing in the Little Okaw River with his grandfather, C.L. Bland of Bethany. One of the Bethany summer league baseball teams came home champions after winning the Bronco Division of the 1993 Okaw Tournament. Strasburg Lions Club Slow Pitch Softball Tournament

•August 22, 2018• The Strasburg Lions club will host a slow pitch softball tournament September 8 in the Strasburg Park. Teams may have up to 15 players and a minimum of eight players. Cost to participate is $200 per team. The Lions will serve hamburgers and porkburgers for lunch and ribeye and tenderloin sandwiches for supper. All teams must be signed up and paid by September 1. •August 22, 2018• By Chuck Sweeny Rockford Register Star Many Illinoisans don’t realize it, but our state is a center of aerospace and aviation technology. Illinois’ aerospace cluster is centered around the northern and northeastern portion of the state. The Rockford area alone has more than 70 companies in the aerospace supply chain employing 7,000 people, says the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. If you include Chicago and southeastern Wisconsin, “there are more than 200 companies in the aerospace cluster, including giants such as AAR Corp., Northrop Grumman and Boeing,” DCEO says. •August 22, 2018• Sullivan hosted a round robin tournament with Teutopolis and Taylorville Saturday. Sullivan took second place. Teutopolis defeated Sullivan 4-1 and Sullivan defeated Tayorville 11-1. Teutopolis also defeated Taylorville 14-13. Amusement Rides at State Fair Inspected by IDOL

•August 15, 2018• The Illinois Department of Labor (IDOL) will conduct routine inspections of all amusement rides and attractions at the 2018 Illinois State Fair. There are more than 65 rides to enjoy on the Carnival Midway, Adventure Village, and Happy Hollows pavilions. IDOL’s Amusement Ride and Attraction Safety Division inspects and permits every ride and determines whether they are safe to operate.
