SCED Future Explored During Special Council Meeting

•August 22, 2018• By Mike Brothers Sullivan Chamber and Economic Development and its future was discussed in a special city council session at Titus Library. With about 50 people attending the 5:00 p.m. August 20 session the changing role of the Chamber in order to meet the changing needs of the city was front and center. As background, Mayor Ann Short explained economic development was placed with the Chamber with an ordinance approved in 2015. IDHS’ Helpline for Opioids Launches New Features

•August 22, 2018• Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS) is launching new features on its Helpline for Opioids and Other Substances. The Helpline provides 24-hour access to individuals experiencing opioid use disorders, their families and anyone affected by the disease. “We’re excited about launching new features for the Helpline and giving people who struggle with substance use disorder more ways to access resources and treatment options,” Gov. Rauner said. “There were more than 2,000 opioid related deaths in Illinois last year. That’s too many lives lost. The event is free and will feature live entertainment, inflatables, rock climbing wall, carnival games and contests, candy and prizes, face painting, and more. Texting While Driving Law Strengthens

•August 22, 2018• Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White’s legislation strengthening the law on texting while driving was signed into law by the governor. House Bill 4846, which takes effect July 1, 2019, cracks down on texting while driving by classifying first-time offenses as moving violations. Sullivan Spark Enlists Citizen Based Planning

Sign collision at Agri-Fab

In the late afternoon of Saturday, May 31st, there was a single-vehicle accident, with the vehicle making contact with the Sullivan Agri-Fab factory signage located at the factory frontage on Hamilton Street. Per Sullivan Police Department’s Chief of Police, Andrew Pistorius, the airbag was deployed in the incident, and the driver refused medical treatment. No further information is available at this time.
