Sullivan School Board Approves Students’ Trip to Spain

•May 29, 2019• By Ariana Cherry for the News Progress Sullivan School Board approved a trip to Spain for Spanish Class students. Students from Patricia King’s Spanish class approached the Sullivan School Board requesting permission to take a trip to Spain during the Spanish Holy Week (April 2020). A few of the Spanish class students presented well-prepared speeches explaining the trip to the board members. The trip would cost $3,165 which would include boarding, dining and souvenir purchases. Friday Return for Lovington Junefest Fish Fry

•May 29, 2019• The Lovington Community Club will return to a Friday night fish fry this year at the request of the Lovington American Legion. The Community Club’s Junefest Fish Fry and the Lovington Community Fireworks will happen on Friday, June 14 because the Saturday date conflicts with the Legion’s monthly pork chop dinner. The fish fry starts at 4:30 p.m. offering food, booths and entertainment in Tom Conn Park until 7 p.m. The entertainment will continue at the field north of the Lovington Grade School until the sparks start flying after sundown. … Read More

As the spinning wheel turns, the history of Illinois Amish heritage is revealed in a Sheep to Clothing event Saturday, June 1, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. New this year will be a pancake breakfast that will be served from 7:00-10:00 a.m. Pancakes, sausage, and traditional Amish liverwurst will be served. •May 29, 2019• Moultrie County real estate taxes were mailed May 24. The first installment is due July 2, 2019, and the second installment is due September 3, 2019. Taxpayers should examine their tax bills including the back of the bill to make sure all of the information is correct. It is the responsibility of the property owner to report all address changes to the assessor’s office, 728-4951. The Bethany Advocates and Support Organization hosted its annual car show on August 22 at Crowder Park. The perfect afternoon weather bought out 52 entries and many enthusiastic onlookers. Greg Fitzgerald’s 1966 Pontiac GTO took home Best off Show honors.
