Piano students of Peggy Reeder performed May 19 in a recital at the First Christian Church in Sullivan. Playing were Alan Knobloch, Jennie Allen, Chester Reeder, Lena Singer, Jessica Dunphy, Heidi Crawford, Scott Light and Micki Winskill.
Senior Girl Scout Tina Hogue of Sullivan will represent the Shemamo Girl Scout Council Wednesday May 22 in serving as honorary page in the state legislature in Springfield. Angela Gore of Sullivan will attend as an observer and Diane Gore will accompany them as an older girl program advisor.
Three area athletes have qualified for the boys’ state track competition held at Eastern Illinois University this Friday and Saturday. A jump of 20-2 3/4 was good enough to qualify Bethany junior Ryan Martin for long jump competition. Junior Mark Bland, also of Bethany, will be sprinting in the 100 meter dash. Sullivan senior Jason Cobb qualified in the 300 meter intermediate hurdles with a performance of 42:7 at sectionals.
Rick Shutter, a member of the Bethany High School band, played Taps during Bethany’s Memorial Day service Monday at the monument in Marrowbone Township Cemetery. Schoolmate Jamie Scott also played and performed the echo effect at the cemetery for the morning service, which was sponsored by American Legion Post 507.
