Lloyd Maurer of Sullivan shot his third hole-in-one Monday afternoon at Sullivan Country Club. Maurer was using an eight-iron on the 150-yard fourth hole when he and fellow golfers, Bill Roley, Dutch Horton and Gil Crawford, watched it drop in the hole.
C. Alan Horn shot a hole-in-one Sept. 12 at Spring Creek Golf Course in Ladd. Horn was participating in a golf outing sponsored by the Great American Insurance Co. and playing with Dutch Ericsson, the CEO of the company when he sank the ball on the 132-yard seven hole with a pitching iron.
The Bethany Mustangs victory over the Atwood-Hammond Rajahs can be described in many different ways—sweet, satisfying, necessary, finally and most of all well-earned. Steve VanLoon, whose game was vastly improved in all areas, started the game with a kick to the Rajahs who found themselves on their own 38-yard line. Four plays later first year coach Scott Bales opted to go for the first down, and again the Rajahs were introduced to the new Steve VanLoon. The third period ended with Bethany leading 20-8, and no-one scored in the fourth quarter.
