The Sullivan Redskins were in the 3A Sweet Sixteen after defeating Newton 15-8 in a second half surge. After the first half, the Eagles were up 8-0. Senior Jason Brewer said the team came out with more intensity and a stronger desire to win after a motivational talk from Coach Jerry Lane. Bubba Farris describes how he, at 160 pounds, held off Newton’s 250-pound nose guard by staying low and taking him down at the waist. Leif Walling stepped up carrying the ball 32 times for 139 yards in the contest. Jason Moody and Jed Shasteen had 13 tackles each to hold the Eagles to their lowest point total of the season. John Cruit and Brian Elder each added eight tackles, Adam Elder had seven and Charley LeCrone had six. The 1993 team fell to Robinson in the second round.
