Lovington school district will host a teacher from Tokyo to teach the students some language, history and social studies courses. Takashi Takehara will be teaching during April and May as part of a learning program.
Gregg Van Pragg has been hired as the new chief of police in Lovington.
Thirteen area students were recently named winners in the Scholastic Arts Award Competition sponsored by the News Gazette newspaper in Champaign. There were more than 1300 entries submitted from 120 schools. Gold Key winners were Josh Hernandez and Jamie Jent from Sullivan and Angie Watts, Lana Quick, Rachel Casteel and Jason Brown all of Lovington. Their artworks will be sent to New York for national judging. Silver Key winners were Andy Van Winkle, Casey Mechling, Toby Williams, Travis McCoy, Donyell Bell, and Adrienne Grogan.
Robert Hauck Jr. and Cheryl Rauch, both of Bethany, have been recognized as Students of the Month at the Decatur Area Vocational Center.
