Dead Man’s Grove

We had no map showing the route of the Charleston Road from Moultrie to Paris, Illinois, when we took our family hike in the 1980s, but, except for a few anxious moments in the poison ivy and blackberry vines at Nelson Ford, we knew the way to go. Some of the old trail has been moved to follow section lines, but most of the meandering old trail used by ancient hunting parties and hordes of pioneer immigrants, including the Lincolns in 1830, can still be followed.
