Saturday Crash Claims Life

Tucker M. Schwengel, 21, died as the result of a 1 a.m. August 27 single vehicle crash on the Clarksburg blacktop.
Schwengel,a Shelbyville High School football standout who was attending Millikin University, was buried in Glenwood Cemetery in Shelbyville following August 29 services in Shelby Christian Church.
He was the son of Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond superintendent of schools Kenneth and Stephanie (Chesnut) Schwengel of Arthur. Two sisters, Alex of Shelbyville and Daley of Arthur survive, along with grandparents.
According to Illinois State Police District 10, Schwengel was driving the 2008 Volkwagen Jetta south on the Clarksburg blacktop at 1:10 a.m. Saturday when the vehicle left the roadway before a curve.
The car traveled 170 feet before hitting a concrete culvert. At that point the Jetta was airborne for another 40 feet traveling over County Road 900N before coming to rest in a tree line.
Schwengel, who was traveling alone, was wearing his seat belt.
