Coach Reeder Moves to Wooden Shoe Country

As part of the rotating of area coaches, Chester Reeder resigned as Sullivan boys’ basketball coach and took the head coaching position for the Teutopolis boys’ basketball team.
Reeder coached Sullivan for five years and had been at Sullivan for 10 years.
Reeder, a 2000 Sullivan graduate, compiled a 62-70 record as Sullivan’ s head coach.
He started with three winning seasons and had a record of 50-30 to start his tenure at Sullivan. Read More

Pitches No-hitter
Jackson Matheson of Sullivan threw a no-hitter for the Cincinnati Riverbats 11U-Sexton against the Little Rocks Blues 17-0. An eight run third inning in the Little League World Series game was led by Matheson along with Will J., Henry M, Ian P and Chase L. who all drove in runs. Matheson started and went three innings, allowing no runs and no hits while striking out eight batters. Jackson is pictured with pitching coach Jeff Naylor from Cincinati. Matheson competed in the USSSA World Series in Gulf Shores Alabama with his team the Cincinati Riverbats. Mathesons team went 7-1 in the Series and made it to the Championship game on Friday July 6th.

Central Illinois Crush Baseball Tryouts

Central Illinois Crush travel baseball will be hosting tryouts for the 2019 season.
Tryouts will be held for an 11U teas as well as a 12U team.
For 11U, players must be 11 or under as of May 1, 2019.
For 12U, players must be 12 or under as of May 1, 2019.
Arrive early, prior to tryouts to complete all tryout registration forms. Read More

Repeat Trampoline Champion

Repeat Trampoline Champion
Shaylin Hunter, 11, of Sullivan is the reigning national trampoline champion. She made nationals four years straight and competed against 50 girls in her age group to reach number one this year in the Ft Lauderdale, Fla. national event. She is the daughter of Siobhan and Austin Hunter of Sullivan.

Jeffers and Harlin Named to First Team All-Area

Natalie Jeffers and Grace Harlin were named to the Herald and Review All Area Softball first team.
Natalie Jeffers - Sr. - Jeffers closed her senior season with a bang, crushing 10 home runs for the Wolves and driving in 30 runs while compiling a .536 batting average. She was a good glove and was named second team all-state and a unanimous all-conference selection. Read More

ALAH’s Nettles Takes Silver at State Meet

Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond’s Kenli Nettles took home three silver medals at the Class 1A State Track and Field Meet in May,
Nettles earned 26 points which placed the team eighth in state. Read More

Fritz Named Area Baseball Player of the Year

Garrett Fritz was named Herald and Review player of the year and was joined on the all area team by several of his teammates.
Austin Harshman - First Team - Harshman was a dynamic leadoff hitter for the Wolves who hit .417 with a home run and 25 RBI. He showed off a strong arm in center field and pitched in relief while assuming occasional starts on the mound, going 7-0 with a 0.22 ERA in 32.1 innings with 39 strikeouts. Read More

The 9-10 year old Sullivan Youth Baseball team #3 won the 2018 Okaw League Championship. The team finished the season with a .320 team batting average, outscored their opponents 83-30 and were 9-0 this season. Beacon Athletes Win Medals In Special Olympics
Coach, Debbie Hunter, and a group of athletes from the Moultrie County Beason competed in the statewide Special Olympics in Bloomington June 15-17.
Hunter said, “Thousands of athletes from all over the state came to compete. We are so proud of our young people who came home with medals.”
The Beacon medal winners are:
Chance Shuman – gold medal in softball throw and 4th in 50- meter run.
Laura Walter – silver in 100- meter walk
Elisa Whitehead – silver in standing long jump
Kim Fair – bronze in standing long jump
Richard McCabe – bronze in 800-meter walk race
John Whitehead – bronze in shot put
Becky Ellis ( Whitrock) – 4th in 100-meter walk
Kim Yeakel – 4th in standing long jump
Kailee French – participation ribbon in 100-meter walk
Jennifer Kenny - 7th in 100-meter walk

Tanner Seelow from Sullivan Youth Baseball #2 (Kevin Cremeens, coach) batting against the Atwood- Hammond team in Monday’s Mustang League Tournament in Villa Grove. Seelow hit a two run double to help win against the AH team. They proceeded to the next round on Tuesday and were defeated by the Sullivan #3 team (Brad Saul, coach).
