OV Bass Fishing Team Starts Season
OVHS sophomores Eric Boomer and Isaac Tipsword competed in the first tournament of the year March 31 at Lake Springfield. The boys battled windy and rainy conditions throughout the day which didn’t help them land any big fish. They will head to Clinton Lake April 7.

St. Anthony Dominates After Seven Run Inning

The Sullivan baseball team dropped a nonconference game to St. Anthony Saturday, March 31.

The Redskins fell behind 2-0 after the second inning, but it was a seven-run inning by the Bulldogs that put the game away for the 9-0 win.

Sullivan players Tim Lawyer and Zach Sowers recorded Sullivan’s only two hits. Sowers also had a walk. Read More

Sullivan Softball Team Shellacks MacArthur With Six Run Sixth Inning

The Sullivan softball team shellacked Decatur MacArthur 13-3 Saturday.

The Redskins fell behind 1-0 after the first inning but took the lead 2-1 in the second inning.

MacArthur retook the lead in the top of the third inning 3-2, but Sullivan answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning to regain the lead 5-3.

From there, Sullivan scored two more runs in the fifth and blew the game open in the sixth inning with six runs to end the game. Read More

WSS Softball Wins Fifth Straight Game

Despite wet and cold weather conditions, the Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg softball team no hit Farina South Central in a blow out Monday and squeaked by Meridian Friday to win its fifth straight game to start the season.

Against Farina South Central at Windsor, Calla Roney pitched a no hitter to shutout South Central, while the Hatches’ offense pounded out 12 hits.

WSS jumped out early with two runs in the first inning and one run in the second inning for a 3-0 lead.

The Hatchets tacked on another run in the fourth inning, but it was the six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning that ended the game with a 10-0 victory.

Roney finished with three hits and an RBI at the plate, and on the mound, she pitched all five innings and struck out 12. Read More

OV Baseball Keeps on Rolling

The Okaw Valley baseball team kept on rolling this past week to improve its record to 5-0.

The Timberwolves topped Maroa-Forsyth in a close game last Thursday and blew out St. Elmo/Brownstown last Wednesday.

Against Maroa-Forsyth, OV battled back late with two runs in the top of the sixth inning and five runs in the top of the seventh to take an 8-7 lead.

Okaw Valley’s Coach Ackers is Area Coach of the Year

Okaw Valley girls’ basketball coach Brad Ackers was named the 36th annual Journal Gazette/Times-Courier Area Coach of the Year this past week.

“The award is more a validation of the girls and their successes this past year than anything,” said coach Ackers. “While it is humbling, at the end of the day it is an award won out of the girls’ accomplishments. In that case, it is one of many they have received this season.” Read More

Two Wins for Sullivan Softball Team

The Sullivan softball team defeated Cerro Gordo last Tuesday and Pana Friday (23rd) to even its record at 2-2 on the season.

To defeat Pana, Ally Elzy had a walkoff run to win the game 8-7.

Each team scored a run in the first inning, and Pana tacked on two more in the second.

Sullivan scored three runs in the third to tie the game at 4-4 and took the lead with a run in the fifth inning.

Knights Softball Team Comes Back Strong in Sixth

The Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond softball team handed Cumberland its first loss of the year in Arthur last Thursday.

The Knights jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the third inning when Marissa Herschberger and Reagan Miller scored in the third inning.

Cumberland tied the game in the fifth inning 3-3, but ALAH took back the lead in the bottom of the inning when Herschberger and Macy Hollingsworth scored.

Cumberland took the lead 6-5 in five in the top of the sixth inning, but the Knights battled back and scored three runs in the bottom of the inning for the 8-6 lead and eventual win. Read More
