Sullivan Girls Drop CIC Game to St. Teresa

The Sullivan girls’ basketball team dropped a Central Illinois Conference game against St. Teresa High School Thursday in Decatur.

“With only playing one game in 12 days we were a little stagnant offensively,” said Sullivan coach Sheri McCain

Strong Raider First Half Too Much for ALAH

A poor second quarter doomed the Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond boys’ basketball team in a nonconference battle against Central A&M last Tuesday.

The Knights fell behind seven points in the first quarter, but it was a 20-8 second-quarter run for the Raiders that extended the lead to 39-20 at the half.

ALAH outscored A&M in the second half 28-26, but it wasn’t enough in the eventual 65-48 loss.

Colton Romine tallied a team-high 15 points, 14 rebounds and four blocks to lead the Knights. Read More

Knights Over Oblong by Three

The Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond boys’ basketball team rolled Oblong on the road Friday night.

In a back-and-forth game, each team traded 1-point quarter leads in the first half.

Sullivan Girls’ Basketball Knocks off Neoga

Sullivan girls’ basketball team knocked off Neoga in a non-conference game at home Saturday.

The Redskins took advantage of a 16-1 run to start the game and did not look back.

Sullivan enjoyed a 29-10 halftime lead and added in the third and fourth quarters for the eventual 51-25 victory.

“We have found a way to finally play together and distribute the ball,” Sullivan coach Sheri McCain said. “The girls played pressure defense and caused quite a few turnovers. We got the ball up the floor and looked to attack the basket.” Read More

Redskins Handle Tuscola on Home Court

The Sullivan boys’ basketball team took care of Tuscola 40-32 in a Central Illinois Conference game at home Friday night.

The Redskins went on a 10-1 run in the first quarter and then took a 15-4 lead into half.

Tuscola battled back, outscoring Sullivan 19-9 in the third quarter to cut the lead to one.

In the fourth quarter, up five points, Sullivan scored underneath, and Caden Ellis stole the ball and was fouled during his drive to the hoop.

He made both free throws to extend the lead to 37-26. Read More

Cumberland and Neoga Challenge Timberwolves

The Okaw Valley boys’ basketball team dropped two games this past week.

OV lost to Cumberland Friday on the road and Neoga in Bethany, Saturday.

Against Neoga, OV fell behind quickly and trailed 13-3 after the first quarter.

The Timberwolves battled back in the second quarter, outscoring Neoga 13-5 to cut the lead to 18-16.

Okaw Valley took the lead heading into the fourth quarter 26-23 but could not hold on down the stretch for the 38-33 loss.

Jared Bunfill led the team with 10 points, including two 3-pointers.

Ty Nichols followed with nine points, and Sam Hagerman added four. Read More

Weather Hits OV Ball Schedule

The Timberwolves’ Thursday night home game against Windsor/Stew-Stras was cancelled because of inclement weather and has been rescheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 23.

Monday night’s game against Cumberland also was cancelled and rescheduled for Saturday Jan. 27 at 10 a.m. in Bethany.

Tuscola Takes ALAH Girls’ Basketball

The Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond girls’ basketball team lost on the road to Tuscola 50-29 Monday night.

The Warriors jumped out early with a 16-5 lead and added on to that lead at half to make it 29-14.

Tuscola added on five more points to its lead in the third and held on for the win. Read More

OVHS Girls Win Holiday Tournament

The Okaw Valley girls’ basketball team gave the fans a great Christmas gift by winning the 17th annual Okaw Valley Holiday Tournament Friday.

OV won two games Friday, defeating Decatur LSA and Martinsville.

In the championship game OV defeated Martinsville 59-24 to finish the tournament with a 5-0 record.

Paige Robinson scored a game-high 23 points including 15 points in the first quarter. Read More

Wallen Scores 1000th Career Point at Knights Classic

The Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond girls’ basketball team placed second in the Knights Classic Holiday Tournament this past week, and senior Knight Hannah Wallen scored her 1,000th career point against Cumberland Friday.

During the Knights Classic Holiday Tournament, ALAH defeated Cumberland and Chrisman to reach the championship game against Decatur St. Teresa.

In the championship game, though, the Knights lost to the Bulldogs 65-61.

St. Teresa jumped out to a 13-7 first-quarter lead and took a 32-23 lead at the half.

The Knights outscored the Bulldogs 19-13 in the third quarter cutting the lead to three points, 45-42.

St. Teresa held on in the fourth for the eventful 65-61 win.

Hannah Wallen tallied a team-high 16 points (including three 3-pointers), five rebounds and seven assists, to go with five rebounds. Read More

Storm leaves damage in its wake

The storm that occurred in the evening hours of June 11th produced wind gusts of up to 70 mph left many locals without power, with many experiencing damage to property ranging from mild to extreme.
