Varisty Okaw Valley and Paris high school baseball players joined the Challenger League for a game in Bethany. The road trip for the Challenger League let them play baseball with instruction from varsity players.

Okaw Valley and Paris high school baseball players dusted off their uniforms following the May 5 game in Bethany and went to work for a great cause.
The OV/Paris game was the ultimate road trip for the Challenger League, when the group of special needs ball players was greeted by two varsity baseball teams as “Buddies”.
As the high school players did the year before following the game at Paris, they stayed around as “Buddies” for the Challenger League game playing along side the Little League visitors.
The Challenger division in Douglas County Little League started with the help of local coach Matt Colvin with a fourth of July 2014 game two teams. Read More

The Okaw Valley baseball team finished the week 2-1 for an overall record of 23-4.
The Timberwolves defeated Louisville North Clay and Argenta-Oreana but lost to the much larger school of Taylorville
Saturday OV scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to take the 9-7 lead and win.

The Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond baseball team improved its record to 6-10 with wins over Mt. Pulaski, Cerro Gordo/Bement and Sullivan this week.
Monday night, the Knights defeated Mt. Pulaski 13-6 to advance to the second round of the IHSA Class 1A Baseball Regional at Central A&M.
Will Cohan had five RBIs, which included a grand slam in the sixth inning.
ALAH scored eight in the first inning to set the tone.
Mt. Pulaski scored six late runs, but it was not enough.
The first inning rally started with a single by Kirk Herschberger, followed with a single by Waylon Schlabach, an error; single by Derek Rhodes, single by Eric Herschberger, a groundout by Shandon Herschberger, and a double by Marcus Vanausdoll. Read More

The Sullivan-Okaw Valley boys’ track team placed sixth with 60 points at the Central Illinois Conference Track Meet at Meridian High School in Macon.

The Sullivan baseball team split a pair of games this past week, shutting out Shelbyville and losing to Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond.
Against the Rams, Sullivan scored three runs in the fourth and five in the fifth to win the game 10-0 in five innings.
Tommy Schibur was 2-for-4 with four RBIs, and Spencer Johnson was 3-for-3 with three runs scored. Read More

The Sullivan softball team lost to Cumberland and Okaw Valley last week and was winning an unfinished game against Clinton 2-0.
Against Cumberland Saturday, the Redskins tied the score in the top of the seventh inning, but Cumberland scored two in the bottom of the inning to win 9-7.
Bailee Pratt had three hits, and Brook Tuttle had two. Read More

The Okaw Valley softball team picked up two wins this week to improve its record to 13-9.
The Timberwolves defeated St. Elmo/Brownstown Monday and Arcola last Tuesday.
Monday night in Bethany, OV took an early lead with a run in the first inning, then tacked on four more in the third inning to take a 5-1 lead.
Both teams scored a run in fourth, and OV scored two insurance runs in the sixth for the final 8-2 score. Read More

The Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond baseball team finished the week 0-2 with losses to Decatur Lutheran and Argenta-Oreana.
Monday Decatur Lutheran scored two runs in the top of the eighth inning to take a lead and the eventual 6-4 win.
Decatur Lutheran took the lead 4-3 in the seventh inning, but ALAH tied the game with a run in the bottom of the inning to send it to the eighth.
Marcus Vanausdoll and Will Cohan each had two hits.
Vanausdoll scored a run, and Cohan knocked in a run. Read More
