SOV Girls’ Track Captures Top Six Spots at Lady Sage Invite

The Sullivan-Okaw Valley girls’ track and field team competed in two meets despite the rainy weather this week.

Thursday at the 18-team Monticello Lady Sages Invitational, Sullivan had four athletes place in the top six spots.

Alaya Bolin tossed the shot put 32 feet 9.5 inches for fourth place, and Esther Miller high jumped 4 foot 8 inches for fourth place.

Natalie Drury followed with a high jump of 4 foot 4 inches for sixth place, and Laine Cameron placed sixth in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 52.72.

The Redskins 1,600-meter relay team placed fourth with a time of 4:27.34. Read More

Okaw Valley Wins Big Over Broncos

The Okaw Valley baseball team defeated Cerro Gordo-Bement but lost its first game in more than five weeks to Morrisonville.

Against the Broncos Monday night, the Timberwolves ended the game in the third inning with a 15-0 lead.

OV scored seven runs in the first inning and eight runs in the second.

The offense totaled 10 hits, and the defense played errorless in the field.

Taylor Coleman, Hayden Francisco and Garrett Fritz each recorded two hits.

Fritz also had a game-high five RBIs.

Sam Hagerman and Hutson Dickens each had three RBIs.

Coleman pitched a one-hit shutout in three innings and struck out seven.

OV’s overall record is now 17-2.

The Timberwolves are scheduled to travel to LSA Friday, host Paris Saturday, then back on the road to Tri-County Monday and Taylorville Tuesday.

Three Knights placed in the top six spots.

Sullivan Softball Team Holds Off Neoga

The Sullivan softball team held off Neoga 7-6 at home Thursday but lost to Charleston away Monday.

Against Neoga, Sullivan scored two runs in the first inning, two in the third and two in the fourth to take a 6-0 lead.

The Redskins tacked on an important run in the fourth to extend the lead to seven.

Neoga bounced back with three runs in the sixth inning and three runs in the seventh inning but could not complete the comeback.

The Sullivan baseball team suffered two close losses this past week.

The Redskins dropped a game to St. Teresa 3-2 Thursday and to Maroa-Forsyth 6-5 last Tuesday.

Against the Bulldogs, Sullivan jumped out to an early lead with a run in the top of the first and second innings.

St. Teresa answered with a run in the third and one in the fourth inning to tie the game 2-2.

The Bulldogs won the game with a walk-off run in the bottom of the seventh.

Tommy Schibur, Brett Tuttle and Zach Sowers each recorded a hit for Sullivan.

Schibur and Sowers each scored a run, and Tuttle and Dalton Rogers each had one RBI.

Knights Finish on Top in Spartan Classic

The Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond boys’ track team competed in the 24-team St. Joseph-Ogden Boys’ Spartan Classic in St. Joseph Friday.

Five Knights and three relay teams finished in the top spots.

SOV Boys’ Track Team Takes Top Spots

The SOV boys’ track team and field team competed in two meets this past week.

The Redskins finished in sixth place out of 17 teams at the Tuscola Invitational Friday.

Six athletes finished in the top six spots.

Jadon Nuzzo took first in the pole vault with a height of 13 feet, and Logan Pedigo followed with a third place finish with a vault of the same height.

J.T. Bland placed third in the 1,600 meter run with a time of 5:06.24, and Isaiah Plank placed fifth at 5:09.71.

Luke Bowman took fifth in the 100-meter dash in 12.12, and Leighton Burcham placed sixth in with a long jump of 18 feet 6 inches.

The 4x200 relay team (Burcham, Bowman, Hopper, Nuzzo) placed fourth with a time of 1:42.50, and the 4x100 relay team (Burcham, Boomer, Cullen Dyer, Bowman) placed sixth at 48.49. Read More

Sullivan Baseball Improves with Two Wins

The Sullivan baseball team finished the week 3-1 with wins over Meridian and Warrensburg-Latham and a loss to Tuscola.

Monday the Redskins defeated Meridian 9-4.

Both teams scored two runs in the first inning, but Sullivan added two more runs in the second to take the lead.

Both teams scored a run in the fourth inning, but Sullivan tacked on another run in the sixth inning and one in the seventh.

Brett Tuttle was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored, and Zach Sowers drove in three runs with two hits.

Bryce Farris and Dalton Rogers each scored two runs, and Jon Gavin had a hit and a run scored.

Rogers pitched four innings for the win. He gave up two earned runs on three hits and one walk. He struck out three.

Storm leaves damage in its wake

The storm that occurred in the evening hours of June 11th produced wind gusts of up to 70 mph left many locals without power, with many experiencing damage to property ranging from mild to extreme.
