Sullivan Redskins Over the Moweaqua Hawks in Tourney Play

The Sullivan Redskins won 40-31 in the Meridian Hawks game at the CIC Tournament in Moweaqua January 25.

“We lost to them early in the season,” coach Sheri McCain said. ”So it was a nice win for us.”

The first quarter found an early lead overtaken by Meridian 9-6. The second quarter 16-5 surge by the Redskins put the girls ahead 22-14 at the half.

“They made us run late in the game, but we were able to withstand their surge,” Coach McCain continued. “Alyssa Marshall and Esther Miller played great defensively, and Esther led in scoring and rebounding.” Read More

The Lady Redskins shot the lights out in a 60-22 conference win over the Shelbyville Rams January 21.  Sophomore Lizzie Green scored the first 12 points for the Redskins, and senior Alysha Marshall added 14 points on four three pointers to help the cause.

Head coach Sheri McCain said the team’s hard work all year is starting to pay off. “I have told them all along it is the journey. Stay with us and keep practicing. You could not tell from this game that we have a losing record because this team plays so hard.”

The Rams knocked down a three pointer to open the game and added a layup off a turn over to make it five zero just under a minute into the contest. Green answered on Sullivan’s next possession with a three pointer from the corner. Green then proceeded to score the next nine points unanswered to give Sullivan the 12-5 lead.

Coach McCain complemented Green’s performance after the win. “I ask coach if anyone else had scored at that point, and she said nope they’re all Lizzie’s. She needed that; we have seen her capability. Here in the last the last four or five games she has been battling illness. I was just glad to see her be assertive tonight, stepping up and shooting the ball.” Read More

Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond’s Knights were a 45-42 winner over Cerro Gordo in LOVC action January 22.

The Knights and Broncos were forced to battle for the win in overtime where ALAH’s six points edged the Broncos three for the win.

In the game rundown Cerro Gordo was 14-30 from the field with ALAH 15-33; the Broncos three point percentage was 44 making 4-9, while the Knights 1-6 from the outside was 16 percent. The Knights hit 14-16 free throws for 87 percent while the Broncos were 10-19 at 52%.

Cerro Gordo was ahead 14-4 in a quick scoring first quarter. By the second quarter the Knights had the advantage 17-8 but went into the half down 22-21 to the Broncos.

Cerro Gordo came into the third quarter with a 13-9 run. The fourth brought on the tie with the Knights putting up a 9-4 effort.

Marcus Vanausdoll led Knight scoring, hitting 4-5 from the field 8-9 free throws for 16 points; while pulling down five rebounds, getting two assists and three steals. Read More

Meridian Hawks Take Home a Win

The Meridian Hawks came to Sullivan January 19 taking home a 53-42 win over the Redskins.

Coach Chester Reeder noted Sullivan showed strength on the backboards pulling down 27, with Ty Molzen and Zach Hrvol getting seven each. The Hawks had 23 rebounds with Kircher leading with six.

Meridian started the first quarter 13-9 ahead of Sullivan. Second quarter action had the Redskins up 10-7 in the a quarter but down 20-19 at the half. Read More

The Okaw Valley Summer Baseball/Softball Sign-Ups will be held 8 a.m.-noon Saturday, January 30 at Okaw Valley Middle School in Findlay and 9-11 a.m. Saturday, February 6 at Okaw Valley High School in Bethany.

ALAH Wins At Arcola

Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond Knights brought home a 48-40 win from Arcola January 25.

The Knights started the first quarter with the starting five getting on the board with 14 points to the Arcola Purple Riders 10 points. Second quarter went in Arcola’s favor scoring 13-6, giving the Riders a 23-20 edge at the half.

A solid 18-10 third quarter for the Knights backed with a 10-7 fourth, cinched the 48-40 win for the ALAH girls’ team. Read More

ALAH Knights Hold Sangamon Valley Down for a Win

Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond Knights held Sangamon Valley at bay January 23 with a 49-38 win in LOVC action.

The Knights were 44 percent from the field with 16-36 while the Storm shot 14-45 for 31 percent.

ALAH made one three point shot to Sangamon Valley’s 0. On the free throw line ALAH hit 16-22 for 72 percent against he Storm’s 11-15 for 73 percent.

Sangamon Valley started the first quarter 12-8 ahead of the ALAH team. By the second quarter they tied 10-10 with the Storm heading into the half ahead 22-18. The Knights were running behind during a 6-10 third quarter, then brought it all home with a 25-6 fourth quarter and a 49-38 victory. Read More

Knights Hold Off Titans for the Win

The Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond Knights held off the Tri-County Shiloh Titans for a 54-51 win January 23.

The Titans were up 16-14 at the end of the first quarter. A 22-6 second quarter let Tri-Co Shiloh go into the half trailing the Knights 28-22.

The Titans came from the half with a 11-9 third quarter while the Knights still led. Tri-Co put a 20-15 effort over ALAH in the fourth with the Knights remaining on top 54-51.

Hannah Wallen scored 19 points, hitting 4-5 from the free throw line, six field goals and one three point shot. Read More

Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond faced down Okaw Valley in a 59-37 win January 21 at Arthur.

The Knights took a 13-8 first quarter advantage over the Timberwolves followed by a 16-9 second quarter that put the ALAH girls’ team up 29-17 at the half.

Okaw Valley came out with a 11-10 third quarter but lost momentum with a 20-9 fourth quarter, resulting in the 59-37 Knight win.

Hannah Wallen led the Knight scoring with 23, hitting seven field goals and a perfect 9-9 from the free throw line.

Megan Fifer hit a three point shot and five from the field for 13 points.

Liz Shipman came up with 11 points, hitting one three point shot and four field goals.

Payton Wellbaum scored six points with two field goals and two free shots; Mycaela Miller hit two field goals for four points, with Janette Comstock getting  two points from 2-2 trips for free throws. Read More

ALAH Downed by Central A&M

Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond’s Knights lost 53-39 to the Central A&M Raiders January 12.

ALAH and Central A&M finished the first quarter 10-11 with the Raiders advantage. During the second Central scored 15-8, going in to the half leading 26-18.

In the third quarter the Raiders outscored the Knights 19-13 with ALAH coming back in the fourth 8-8, leaving the final score 53-39.

Marcus Vanausdoll led Knights scoring, hitting 5-7 field goals and one free throw for 11 points, while pulling down five rebounds, grabbing one steal and giving one assist.  Read More
