The Sullivan Redskins took a 61-54 home court win over the Arcola Purple Riders Tuesday,  December 15.

Head coach Chester Reeder noted the 5-2 Sullivan team had 27 rebounds with Ty Molzen pulling down 14 to help the effort.

The Redskins were 9-5 in the first quarter over the Purple Riders, who came back strong in the second quarter with a 16-9 run.

Sullivan was down 21-18 at halftime They scored 18 points in the third quarter to Arcola’s nine. Both teams were scoring by the fourth with a 25-24 quarter for the Redskins to end the game.

Molzen was also able to hit seven field goals and eight free throws for 22 points. Zach Hrvol stepped in with three field goals, two three point shots and two from the free stripe for 14 points. Read More

The Meridian Lady Hawks capitalized on a strong first half to beat the Lady Redskins 36-29, December 19.

“We played a great second half and outscored them 16-10,” coach Sheri McCain said. “But unfortunately we dug ourselves a hole in the first half, giving up 26 points, including four three pointers.”

Merdian’s Amy AuKamp had two three pointers, Chloe Herbert scored two three pointers and Hannah Wetzel contributed one for the Lady Hawks.

Lady Redskin Lizzie Green scored a three pointer and a field goal for five points; Brooke Tuttle had two field goals and two free throws for six points plus adding two steals; Chloe Riley and Ester Miller scored four points apiece from a field goal and two free shots each. Sullivan Redskins basketball took a 55-30 loss from a larger Monticello Sage team December 18.

Sullivan kept up the battle of the backboards throughout the game, getting 21 for the night, led by 5’10” senior guard Kaleb Shumard with six. The Sages had 24 rebounds led by Winterbottom with seven.

The Sages started out the first quarter with an 11 to five advantage over the Redskins team. In the second Sullivan scored another three points to Monticello’s 15, heading into the half 26-8 Sages.

In the third quarter Redskins scoring improved to 12, with Monticello getting 14. By the fourth quarter the Sages maintained momentum, outscoring the Redskins 15-10.

Six foot senior guard Eric Keller led Sullivan scoring with one field goal and two three points shots for eight. Read More

Sullivan’s Lady Redskins were hampered by turnovers in their 53-36 home loss to the Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond Lady Knights Dec. 7.

“Once again we had too many turnovers,” coach Sheri McCain said. “You can’t win if you turn the ball over consistently.”

In first quarter action the Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond team outscored the Lady Redskins 17-12. The Lady Knights had an 18-12 run in the second quarter heading in to the half ahead 35-24.

A cold third quarter for Arthur led to a 10-6 effort for Sullivan. Arthur scored 12 to Sullivan’s four in the fourth quarter to win the game. Read More
