The Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond Knights traveled to Oblong January 8 with the Panthers winning 49-37.
The Knights scored eight points in the first quarter while Oblong answered with 14 points.
At the end of the half the Panthers were up 26-15. Oblong scored 11 points in the third to ALAH’s eight with the Knights coming back in the fourth scoring 14 to the Panthers 12 points, but it was not enough to get the 49-37 win from the home team. Read More

Okaw Valley Lady Timberwolves held off the Windsor Stew Stras Hatchets 53-51 in home court action January 7.
The Lady Timberwolves came out strong in the first quarter, outscoring the Hatchets 18-7. The tide turned in the second quarter with Windsor Stew Stras scoring 18 to Okaw Valley’s five, going into the half time ahead 25-23.
Okaw Valley came back in the third, scoring 12 points to the Hatchets eight. Windsor Stew Stras outscored the Lady Timberwolves in the fourth 18-13 but it was not quite enough for the win.
Natalie Jeffers led Okaw Valley scoring, hitting seven field goals and two free shots for 16 points.
Paige Robinson made one three point shot, five field goals and two free throws for 15 points. Chloe Weybright hit two three point shots and three field goals for 12 points. Jesse Robinson was 2-2 from the free stripe and hit three field goals for eight points. Devan Nave rounded out the Timberwolves scoring with two.
Windsor Stew Stras was led by MacKenzi Tabbert who scored two three pointers, four field goals and three free shots for 17 points. Grace Schuler hit one three point shot, four field goals and three free throws for 14 points. Nikki Trussell scored three field goals and three free shots for nine points Katrina Davis completed Hatchet scoring with one free throw.

Okaw Valley’s boys’ basketball team participated in the St. Anthony’s Shoot out in Effingham January 9 beating Clay City 77-30.
The Timberwolves made 29 points in the first quarter with the Wolves scoring nine points. It was 44-14 at the end of the first half. At the end of the third quarter the score was 62-25 with Okaw Valley going on to win 77-30. Read More

The Sullivan Lady Redskins dominated Cerro Gordo in the first half to win 53-36 at home January 11.
“We had a great first half,” coach Sheri McCain began, “but came out complacent in the second half.”
Sullivan came out with a 15-7 run over the Lady Broncos in the first quarter. The Lady Redskins stretched that with a 16-7 second quarter heading into the half ahead 31-14.
Sullivan cooled off at the half, and Cerro Gordo maintained, as they tied 9-9 in third quarter scoring. The Lady Redskins and Lady Broncos tied13-13 in the fourth leaving the same outcome difference as the first half at 53-36. Read More

The Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond Lady Knights kept the pressure on Neoga’s Lady Indians, pulling away with an 82-74 home court win January 7.
Neoga started the first quarter scoring 23 to the Lady Knights 19 points. The tide turned in the second quarter with the ALAH team hitting 22 to the Lady Indians 16 points, putting the Lady Knights ahead 41-39 at the half.
The Lady Knights scored 18 to the Lady Indians nine points in the third quarter. Neoga came back strong in the fourth quarter with a 26 point run to the Lady Knights 23, but it wasn’t enough and ALAH won 82-74.
Hannah Wallen had a big night at the free throw line scoring 14-17 and six field goals for 26 points. Megan Fifer scored six from the field and was 2-3 from the free stripe for 14 points; Logan Kauffman had five field goals and hit 3-4 from the free throw line for 13 points. Mycaela Miller hit one three point shot, three field goals and was 2-5 from the free stripe for 11 points. Liz Shipman hit a three point shot, three field goals and one free shot for 10 points. The Lady Redskins were aggressive on the ball and rebounds during the Neoga game January 9. Above Chloe Riley and Ester Miller made sure Neoga’s Jaycie Roy didn’t get away clean after a rebound. Miller and Riley contributed to the defensive effort on the floor and backboards. Miller scored seven of her nine points from the free stripe with Riley scoring three of her five points from the free throw line.

Coming into Saturday’s non-conference matchup against Neoga Sheri McCain had her team ready. “It’s always been a battle. We lost to them in a hard fought game last year. That was a tough loss for us at their place. This year coming into it I knew they had the edge, but I just wanted to see my girls fight. I told the girls to step up and do your job.”
The Lady Redskins were down early 4-0, but rallied back to take a 7-4 lead at the two minute mark in the first quarter. Sophomore Lizzie Green hit a three pointer from the corner and sophomore Laine Cameron added two free throws to provide the shortlived lead.
Green finished with 11 points to lead all Sullivan scorers. Neoga proceeded to go on a 7-1 run, taking an 11-8 lead into the second quarter.
McCain was pleased with how her team stuck to the game plan. “We were trying to stop their go to players. We were trying to focus on Ec Thies, and I thought we did a nice job shutting her down with six points in the first half.” Read More

Okaw Valley faced the Cumberland High School Pirates January 8 with the Timberwolves falling 66-50.
The Timberwolves scored 14 to the Pirates 18 points in the first quarter. In the second Cumberland scored another 30 to Okaw Valley’s 22, heading in to the half ahead 48-36.
In the third Cumberland added 44 points to the Timberwolves 35. The fourth quarter found the Pirates still dominating with a 22-15 run which left the final at 66-50. Read More

The Cowden-Herrick Hornets were no match for the Lady Redskins from Sullivan January 7.
Sullivan came away with a 47-17 win.
Sullivan started the first quarter with a 10-4 lead. The Lady Redskins had a 13-2 run in the second quarter over the Hornets, going into the half ahead 23-6.
The third quarter was a Sullivan shutout with 14 points followed by a 11-10 Cowden-Herrick fourth quarter.
“The girls put four good quarters together offensively,” coach Sheri McCain said. “I was very proud of their intensity and effort, and for the first time this season they communicated exceptionally well.” Read More

Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond Knights played in the Tri-County Tournament in Kansas posting a loss to Paris December 29 and coming back with a win over Tri-County in the 7 p.m. game December 30.
The 46-42 win over Tri-County’s Titans started with a 10-9 first quarter, giving Tri-County the edge . That was followed with a 16-14 second quarter that put the Titans ahead 26-23 at the half.
The Knight’s had a strong third quarter scoring 12-2 over the Tri-County team which was enough for the win after a 14-11 fourth quarter led by the Titans.
Athur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond shot 18-38 from the field; 1-3 three point shots; 9-15 rebounds with 20 rebounds, 10 assists, 13 steals.
Tri-County shot 10-31 from the field; 3-11 from the three point line; hit 19-24 free throws; 22 rebounds; six assists and nine steals.
Both teams had 20 turnovers with Tri-County capitalizing with 14 points to the Knights’ six points on turnovers. Read More

The Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond Knights traveled to Effingham January 4, with St. Anthony winning the game 40-23.
The Bulldogs and Knights had a low scoring first quarter with ALAH leading 5-3. The second quarter found St. Anthony scoring 15 to the Knights six points going into the half ahead 18-11.
It was Bulldogs 12-6 in the third quarter and 10-6 in the fourth quarter sealing the fate for the Knights. Read More
