Sullivan golfers played at Iron Horse in Tuscola Sept. 24 with Monticello posting the low team score of 171.
Sullivan finished with a 182 followed by Tuscola at 186 and St. Teresa shooting a 203.
Sullivan is now 17-5, and 11-0 in the CIC conference.
There were no team scores for the Lady Redskin golfers. Brooke Tuttle shot a 48; Tatum Ellis a 52 and Irie Dulin a 63. Read More

Last Friday’s LOVC northwest contest between Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond and Arcola was a mismatch from the beginning.
The Purple Riders came into the game having outscored its opponents 212-12 and attained a third place ranking in the Associated Press’ class 1A listing for the week.
The Knights, by contrast, had allowed just over 40 points a game through week four and is certainly in the throes of a rebuilding year.
But with all that said, head coach Dale Schuring still wanted to see a victory–the small ones that is.
“We knew we weren’t going to win the game so you come in and try to do something positive and try to build off of it and try not to give them extra opportunities with interceptions and fumbles,” he said. “They’re good; they’re going to score– we knew that. But the goal was to only let them score when they were actually on offense.”
Which wasn’t quite the case.
The Purple Riders’ defense swallowed up the Knights throughout the first half–not allowing them into Rider territory. And with 8:33 left in the first quarter, the Knights’, backed up to their two-yard line, Tyler Smith was met by a wall of purple who would take the senior running back down in the end zone for the safety.
Arcola would put together a two-play series on their ensuing possession to go up 18-0–not 30 seconds later.
On the following kickoff return, a Knights’ fumble was recovered by Arcola, who then ran it into the end zone for yet another Purple Rider score.
The Knights also had several untimely penalties and three fumbles, all of which were recovered by Arcola.
“We didn’t come to play football, plain and simple,” said Schuring, “and we haven’t for a couple weeks now. That’s where we’re at.”
Arcola would score on every drive but one in the first half and go into the locker room up 64-0.
But those small victories for which Schuring was looking, he saw.

The trip to Warrensburg-Latham for volleyball wasn’t all bad for the Sullivan Redskin team.
The varsity lost 13-25 and 18-25 and the junior varsity 13-25 and 19-25.

Meridan edged out the Redskin volleyball team at home on Sept. 24. The varsity Sullivan team scored 28-26 in the first game but lost 21-25 and 20-25 in the next two.
“Tonight the Sullivan Redskins came out strong, fought hard in the first game and pulled out a win,” coach Krista Smith said.
“The team had a few mental errors but stayed strong as a team in the second and third,” she continued. “Abby Elzy provided some great aces, and Chloe Riley had several outstanding hits and well-timed plays at the net.” Read More

Okaw Valley’s volleyball team traveled to Ramsey Sept 22 and came home with a win.
Okaw Valley started off with a 25-20 win over the home team and followed up with a 25-17 match win. This brings the Okaw Valley team’s record to 9-5-0. Read More

The Redskins volleyball team played at the Arcola Invitational Tournament Saturday, Sept 26.
The team earned their first win against Marshall in the first match of the day. The Redskins looked their best in the third game of this match against Marshall. They earned the win with great energy and 100% teamwork. In the next match, they lost to Tri-County in two and gave Arcola a good run in the third match-- going three games.
“If the Redskins had pulled out a win in the match against Arcola, they would have been in the championship match; instead they played Altamont later in the day and lost in two,” coach Krista Smith said. Read More

Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond high school students are spending this week celebrating homecoming. It’s a week that ends with the a dance on Saturday, Oct. 3 with the coronation ceremony at 9 p.m.
Friday starts with red, gold and black styles showing team support. By 10:30 a.m. students will be participating in the homecoming games. Parade lineup begins at 1:15 p.m. Oct. 2 with the parade in Arthur kicking off at 2 p.m.
Coronation practice follows the parade in the old gym, all leading up to the 7 p.m. football game between the Cerro Gordo Broncos and ALAH Knights. Read More

Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond Knights volleyball team travelled to Decatur Lutheran School Association (LSA) Sept. 24 winning both games 25-17 and 25-19. This brings the varsity Knight record to 8-5 and 1-0 in conference play.
The Knights action included Makayla Brown with one kill; Chelsey Chupp one kill and one dig; Hannah Leal provided one kill and three digs. Read More
