Sullivan Track Teams Perform Well In Home Meet

The Sullivan girls’ and boys’ track and field teams hosted senior night before a meet against several other schools Friday.
Seniors from both teams were winners at their last regular-season home meet.
The girls’ team defeated Arcola, Cerro-Gordo, Cumberland and St. Teresa with a score of 96, which was 21 points better than Cerro Gordo. Arcola placed third with 36 points.
Several Redskins placed first in their events, and all four relay teams took first.
Cassidy Short won three events, including the long jump, triple jump, and the 100-meter dash.nShe long jumped a personal-best 4.91 meters, triple jumped 9.93 meters and ran the 100 meters in 13.99. Read More

Darush Competes At NJCAA Golf National Championship

Addison Darush, a 2019 SHS graduate, competed in the National Junior College Athletic Association Women’s Golf National Championship from May 10-14 at Plantation Bay Golf and Country Club in Ormond Beach, Fla. Darush recently graduated from John A. Logan College with an associates’ degree in science. Read More

Softball
The Okaw Valley softball team played one game this week, and it was a doozy.
The Timberwolves hosted Arcola Wednesday, May 19, in Bethany.
The Purple Riders scored a run in the third inning, but Okaw Valley countered with a run in the fourth inning to tie the game.
The Timberwolves plated two more runs in the sixth, but Arcola scored two runs in the top of the seventh to send the game into extra innings tied at three.
The game ended when the Timberwolves walk-offed a run in the bottom of the eighth for the 4-3 victory.
Grace Bunfill recorded three of the Timberwolves six team hits, and Avery Bruns had one RBI.
Bunfill pitched 7 1/3 innings and struck out 15. Lana Ashley pitch for two outs of the game. Read More

The Sullivan softball team dropped 3-of-4 Central Illinois Conference games this past week.
The Redskins lost to Arcola 9-1 Saturday.
For Sullivan, Annabella Brownlee recorded two hits and drove in the team’s lone run.
Friday, May 21, Tuscola knocked of Sullivan 12-0.
The Warriors scored eight runs in the second inning to pull away.

The Redskin softball team finished the week with a 1-3 record.
Sullivan defeated Central A&M but lost to Clinton, Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond and St. Teresa.
The Redskins plated three runs in the sixth inning to defeated Central A&M last Wednesday 9-6.
For Sullivan, Morgan Moll recorded two singles, a double and three RBIs. Mikaela Moore and Maddie Probus each had two hits and two RBIs.
Friday, St. Teresa shut out Sullivan 15-0 in a four-inning game. Read More

The Timberwolves baseball team knocked off Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond and Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg but lost to LeRoy this past week.
Against ALAH, OV fell behind 4-2 after two innings but battled back to score a run in each of the next three innings to take a 5-4 lead.
The Timberwolves tacked on two more runs in the sixth for the 7-5 Lincoln Prairie Conference win.
For ALAH, Nik Miller was 3-for-3 with two RBIs, and Wyatt Hilligoss was 3-for-5 with two runs scored.
Clay Seal was 2-for-3, and Brayden Fay and Aaron Seegmiller each drove in a run.
For OV, Eli Hagerman was 3-for-3 with three runs driven in, and Kadan Miller had two RBIs. Read More

Girls’ Track and Field
The Sullivan girls’ track and field team competed in two meets this past week. The Redskins won a quadrangular at Cumberland and took first place in a Central Illinois Conference quadrangular.
“It was a great first meet for both boys and girls,” said Sullivan track and field coach Kali Taylor. “On the girls side, I have a lot of sophomores that hadn’t participated in a high school track meet yet, and they were very nervous, but performed very well. Overall, it was a great team effort to open the season!” Read More

The Timberwolves lost to Charleston 10-0 Friday, May 7.
The Trojans put up crooked numbers each of the first three innings to pull away.
Aiden Williams recorded OV’s lone hit in the game.
Thursday, May 6, OV lost to Neoga in a close 5-4 game.

OV Baseball Posts Wins Over Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg and North Clay

For the past several years, Okaw Valley baseball playoff hopes loomed large. This year is a bit different.
With no Illinois High School Playoffs scheduled, Okaw Valley coach Andrew Hagerman and other coaches in the area have to focus on winning each and every game of the season.
The Okaw Valley team started this season 2-1 with wins against Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg and North Clay and a loss to St. Anthony.
For its second win of the season, Okaw Valley defeated North Clay with a last-inning comeback.
The Timberwolves scored two runs in the seventh inning to overtake North Clay 5-4.
Okaw Valley had taken the lead in the third inning 3-1, but North Clay tied the game in the fourth inning and took the lead in the fifth inning. Read More

The Sullivan/Okaw Valley football team finished its third straight season without a win with a loss to Warrensburg-Latham in Warrensburg Friday night.
Though the Redskins scored one of their highest offensive performances of the season, the Cardinals outscored Sullivan 41-27 for the Central Illinois Conference win.
With 2:06 left in the first quarter, Sullivan scored on a 52-yard screen pass from Luke Vander Burgh to Ian Plank to cut the lead to 8-6.
With 9:33 left in the first quarter, the Cardinals scored on a run play to take a 14-6 lead. Read More
