SOV Football
Sullivan/Okaw Valley dropped its second game of the year with a 50-6 loss to Newton at Newton Friday.
Sullivan scored its touchdown on a pass play in the second quarter.
Newton took a 30-point lead into halftime.
For SOV, Kyle Corkill was 8-for-12 passing for 104 yards, including the touchdown pass, and he rushed for 31 yards.
Will Dawkins finish with 32-yards receiving on two catches.
Ryan Villalobos caught one pass for 64 yards, and Trey McRill totaled 38 yards rushing.

SOV Football
The Redskins football team could not find its first win in more than four years against Nokomis at Victory Field Friday night.
Out of the two Redskins, Nokomis came out on top 54-0. Nokomis lead 33-0 at halftime.
SOV quarterback Kyle Corkill completed 7-of-12 passes for 40 yards. He also led the team in rushing with 23 yards.
Sullivan is scheduled to travel to Newton in a non-conference game Friday night. Read More

Sullivan High School hosted its Fall Sports Preview Night Aug. 20 at Victory Field
The football team scrimmaged and then team members were introduced.
The program started at 5 p.m. with introduction to team members for SOV football, SOV football cheer, marching band and color guard, cross country, boys’ and girls’ golf, SOV girls’ swimming, baseball, softball, and cross country. Read More

The Okaw Valley girls’ and boys’ golf teams competed in separate meets Thursday, Aug. 19.
The boys’ team played in a triangular against Villa Grove and Windsor Stewardson Strasburg.
The Timberwolves won the meet with the low score of 189. Villa Grove followed with 235, and WSS finished with 249. Read More

Ethan Schmohe represented the Sullivan Blue Dolphins at the Illinois Senior Championship meet August 30 and 31 in Westmont, Illinois at the new FMC Natatorium. Like many athletes Schmohe has had a rough year in his competitive sport. Between pool shutdowns, meets being canceled it has been a true challenge to stay in shape and at the competitive level it takes to qualify for the Illinois Championship meet. Read More

Sullivan Blue Dolphins Swimmers Qualify For Regionals
Sullivan Blue Dolphins had 14 swimmers qualify for Regionals this summer. Unfortunately, they were not able to compete but their qualification deserves the accolades. Sullivan Boys Head To Wisconsin Ohio Valley Regionals

Caysen Harminson and Schafer Ogle, both of Sullivan, with the 2021 13 year old State Championship banner that their team, the Mattoon Area All Stars, achieved recently. The team will be traveling to the Ohio Valley Regionals on Wednesday, July 28 for the 5 day tournament in the hopes of advancing to the Babe Ruth World Series in August.

Caysen Harminson and Schafer Ogle, both of Sullivan, are members of the Mattoon Area All Star Team which is part of the Babe Ruth Little League. They recently traveled with the team to Chicago where the team won the Northern Illinois Babe Ruth 13 year old State Championship. Their team played two games, during those games only one run was given up and in the first game there was only one hit.
The first game was against Evergreen Park Mustangs and the score was 6-0. The championship game was against the Sheridan Park Generals which was a score of 1-6 with the All Star Team coming out victorious.
On Wednesday, July 28 they will be traveling to Eau Claire, Wisconsin for the Ohio Valley Regionals. This is a five day tournament that will run from Thursday-Sunday and will involve 16 teams. Schafer plays the positions of catcher and third base. Caysen plays the positions of pitcher and third base.
If the Mattoon Area All Star Team succeeds in the Regionals they will travel to Jamestown, New York for the Babe Ruth World Series in August. The team is coached by Tony Sharp and Justin Young. Both boys have regularly played for the Illini Crush of Okaw Valley which is coached by Tim Montgomery and Brad Saul.[/s2If]
