ALAH Boys’ Basketball Finishes Season

The Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond boys’ basketball team finished the season with five-straight wins for a league-leading 8-1 Lincoln Prairie Conference record and a 12-2 overall record to end the season.
The Knights knocked off Clinton Tuesday, March 9, Cerro Gordo/Bement the following night and then defeated Warrensburg-Latham 84-54 Friday to end the season.
Against the Broncos, the Knights cruised to a relatively easy win.
For ALAH, Jamison Rocke scored a game-high 29 points to go with five rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Wyatt Romine contributed 20 points and ripped down a team-leading eight rebounds.
Austin Plank drained eighteen points and had a game-leading seven steals. Read More

Sullivan Boys’ Basketball Finishes the Week 1-2

The Redskins knocked off Villa Grove/Heritage Saturday but lost to Tuscola in overtime last Tuesday and Cerro-Gordo-Bement last Monday.
In a nonconference matchup against Villa Grove/Heritage Saturday, Sullivan outscored the Blue Devils by five points in the first quarter and five points in the second quarter for a 30-20 halftime lead.
Sullivan extended the lead ten more points in the third quarter on its way to a 59-37 win.
Senior Ian Plank scored a team-leading 21 points, seven steals and four assists to go with three rebounds.
Leyton Ellis followed with 20 points, three rebounds and three steals.
Ben Bushue collected a team-high seven rebounds to go with four points. Read More

Sullivan girls’ basketball captures CIC championship

The Sullivan girls’ basketball team picked up a nonconference win against rival Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond and two conference wins to capture the Central Illinois Conference championship.
In a season without IHSA playoffs, Sullivan zeroed in on the CIC championship, and after defeating Meridian 64-30 Wednesday, March 3 they accomplished that goal.
“The girls clinched the CIC title tonight and I am so proud of them,” said Sullivan coach Sheri McCain. “With no post season, this was our only goal, and they accomplished that. This senior class now owns two CIC titles and one co-championship.”
Sullivan did not leave any doubt from the start. The Redskins jumped out to a 27-7 first-quarter lead did not look back.

OV Girls’ Basketball Wins One, Drops One

The Okaw Valley girls’ basketball defeated Blue Ridge Saturday and LSA Friday but fell to Tri-County last Monday.
Against Blue Ridge Saturday, the Timberwolves took a 16-7 first quarter lead and then extended that lead to 34-16 halftime lead.
Okaw Valley outscored the Knights 14-5 in the third quarter on its way to a 59-29 win.
Mia Harris scored a team-leading 17 points for the Timberwolves.
Bailey Bennett hit double-digit scoring with 11 points, and Rissa Montgomery followed with nine points.
Lexi Bartimus contributed six points, and Megan Roley, Evelyn Ashley and Delaney Johnson each scored three points.
For Blue Ridge, Tatem Madden and Jaclyn Pearl each scored seven points. Read More

Okaw Valley Boys’ Basketball Wins Two, Drops One

The Okaw Valley boys’ basketball team defeated Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond last Tuesday and Cerro Gordo/Bement Friday to stay atop the Lincoln Prairie Conference, but the Timberwolves lost to Meridian on a nonconference game Saturday.
On the road Friday against Cerro Gordo/Bement, the game was back-and-forth in the first quarter and for the first half of the second quarter.
Then the Timberwolves went on 14-2 run late in the second quarter to take a 14-point lead into halftime, 41-27.
From there, the Timberwolves held on in the third quarter and extended the lead for the eventual 76-52 win. Read More

Sullivan Girls’ Basketball Posts Wins

The Sullivan girls’ basketball team won two Central Illinois Conference games and a non-conference game this past week and entered the top ten Class 2A state ranking for the first time this season at No. 8.
Sullivan improved to 9-1 on the season by winning its seventh-straight game.
The Redskins knocked off Central A&M Monday Feb. 22, Tuscola Thursday, Feb. 25, and St. Anthony Saturday.
Against Tuscola, the CIC title might have been on the line. The Redskins came into the game with their highest state ranking of the year. Tuscola was also ranked in the top ten in state at No. 6 and undefeated at 10-0. Read More

Sullivan Boys’ Bball Drops Games Against Maroa Forsyth and Clinton

After winning 3-of-4 of its first games, the Sullivan boys’ basketball team dropped four straight matches, including two Central Illinois Conference heartbreakers last week.
Sullivan lost to Maroa-Forsyth Saturday and to Clinton Friday.
Against the Trojans, the game was back and forth. Sullivan took a three-point lead in the first quarter. Maroa-Forsyth eliminated that lead to tie the game at 32. Read More

The boys’ and girls’ Okaw Valley basketball teams competed in only one game each this past week.
Boys’ Basketball
The Timberwolves played their game at Arcola Tuesday, Feb. 23 in a Lincoln Prairie Conference matchup.
In overtime though, the Purple Riders outscored the Timberwolves 13 points in the extra period for the 52-44 win. Read More

The Okaw Valley boys’ basketball team improved its record to 6-1 overall and 5-0 in the Lincoln Prairie Conference with wins this week.
The Timberwolves defeated Decatur LSA Friday and Argenta-Oreana Saturday.
Okaw Valley wasted no time building a lead in the first quarter by outscoring AO 23-6. The leaders of the LPC did not look back in the 71-23 route.
Three Timberwolves finished with double digit scoring.
Eli Hagerman scored a game-high 19 points, including five 3-pointers and nine points in the first quarter.

Sullivan Boys’ Basketball Drops Game Against Shelbyville

The Sullivan boys’ basketball team dropped a Central Illinois Conference game against Shelbyville Friday night.
The Redskins fell behind 11-5 in the first and headed into the half behind 22-17.
The Rams took advantage of a 14-7 third quarter run to extend their lead.
Shelbyville held on from there for the eventual 54-48 win.
Leyton Ellis scored a team-high 21 points, and Ian Plank tallied four steals, three assists, and 14 points.
