Sullivan Boys Hold Off Clinton for Win

The Sullivan boys’ basketball team slipped by Clinton in the seventh-place game of the Central Illinois Conference Tournament Saturday.

ALAH Knights Beat Blue Devils in Overtime

The Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond boys’ basketball team picked up two more wins to stay undefeated in the Lincoln Prairie Conference last week.
The Knights knocked off Decatur Lutheran last Tuesday and Villa Grove/Heritage Friday for a perfect 6-0 LPC record.
Friday night against Villa Grove/Heritage, ALAH had to comeback in the fourth quarter and win it in overtime to beat the Blue Devils. Read More

OV Girls Basketball Team Advances

The Okaw Valley girls’ basketball team won its last regular-season game against Decatur LSA Thursday and carried that momentum into a win in the first round of the IHSA Class 1A Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond Regional Monday.
In Arthur Monday, OV defeated Meridian to advance in regional action this week.
To knock off the Hawks, the Timberwolves outscored Meridian 7-4 in each of the first two quarters.
The Hawks cut the lead to four points heading into the fourth quarter, but OV outscored Meridian 17-11 for the 42-32 win.
Mia Harris led OV with 15 points, and Bailey Bennett and Kate Jeffers followed with nine points each. Read More

Sullivan Swimmers Take First Place

The Sullivan swim team competed in a meet last week.
Ethan Schmohe placed first in the 100 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 100 backstroke, 50 freestyle and 100 fly.
He placed second in the 200 freestyle, 200 IM and 400 IM.
Matthew Wesselman took first place in the 500 freestyle with a personal-best time of 5:15.91.
Clayton Schmohe dropped four seconds in his 100 backstroke time.

Timberwolves Take Third

The Okaw Valley boys’ basketball team split a pair of games this past week to place third in the Lincoln Prairie Conference Tournament.
The Timberwolves lost to Villa Grove/Heritage last Tuesday but knocked off rival Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond Saturday to take third in the LPC Tournament.

ALAH Knights Winning Streak is Broken

After winning seven straight games, the Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond boys’ basketball team dropped two Lincoln Prairie Conference Tournament games.
The Knights lost to Okaw Valley 45-40 Saturday and Cumberland last Tuesday to place fourth in the LPC Tournament.
Despite defeating the Pirates 53-46 a week earlier, the Knights lost to Cumberland 59-55. The game was back and forth. The Knights took a 26-20 first half lead, but the Pirates cut the lead to two in the third quarter.
In the fourth, Cumberland was able to tie the game at 55 to send it to overtime. Read More

ALAH Girls Team Dominates Decatur Lutheran

After dropping games to Central A&M and Tri-County, the Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond girls’ basketball team throttled Decatur Lutheran.
Against the Lions on senior night Monday, the Knights jumped out early with an 18-8 lead and did not look back.
ALAH held Decatur Lutheran to five or less points in each of the last three quarters for the 56-19 win.
Kirsten Corum totaled 13 points, three rebounds and two steals, and Jolynn Barbee contributed 11 points and three rebounds. Read More

Sullivan Girls Bounce Back Beating St. Teresa

After losing to St. Teresa in overtime in the championship game of the Central Illinois Conference Tournament Thursday, the Sullivan girls’ basketball team bounced back to defeated the Bulldogs in a regular-season CIC matchup on senior night Monday.
After a back-and-forth first quarter, the Redskins went into the half trailing 21-19.
The Bulldogs extended that lead to 35-31 heading into the fourth quarter.
Unlike in the championship game where Sullivan was able to grab the lead for good, the Redskins took a 41-39 lead after Lilly Null hit two layup drives.
St. Teresa tied the game with 2:10 left in the game.
Emily White knocked down a 3-pointer with just less than two minutes to play to retake the lead 44-41. Read More

The Okaw Valley girls’ basketball team split two Lincoln Prairie Conference games this past week.
OV defeated Cerro Gordo/Bement on Senior Night Thursday, Jan. 20, but lost to Tri-County, Monday.
Against the Broncos Thursday, OV came out on top of a back-and-forth game during Senior Night.
The lead changed several times in the first half, but a 14-7 third quarter run for OV gave them breathing room. Read More

The Moultrie-Douglas County Fair Pageant will be held Monday, July 27th at 6:00 p.m. for Little Miss Fair Queen and 7:00 p.m. for Miss and Junior Miss Fair Queen located at the south track on the Mo-Do Fairgrounds. Vying for the title of Miss Moultrie Douglas Fair Queen are: Abigail Meyer of Tuscola, Addee Mulligan of Arcola, Sarah Rogers of Atwood, Ava Whitson of Tuscola, Addisyn Wilson of Villa Grove, Emma Spillman of Tuscola, Aymara Leal of Arcola and Katilyn Kirby of Sullivan.
