SHS Cameron Crowe Signs with Greenville

On April 23rd, Cameron Crowe signed his letter of intent to continue his baseball career at Greenville University this Fall. Said Cameron, “I am most looking forward to pitching at Greenville for the next four years and seeing where that takes me in the future.” Cameron is currently ranked 10th in State 2-A baseball and ranked 2nd in the Lincoln Prairie conference for an ERA of .64. SHS Taylar Mercer Signs with Lake Land

On Friday, May 9th in the Sullivan High School Commons, Taylar Mercer signed her letter of intent to continue her trap shooting career at Lake Land this Fall. Said Taylar, “I am looking forward to meeting a new community. My favorite quote: “Good things come to those who wait.” Taylar has not yet declared or decided on her major. Lady Redskins take 3rd at LPC Meet

SHS Girls Track finished in 3rd place with 82 points at the LPC Meet on Friday in Arcola. They also had 5 athletes garner All Conference accolades and several new season personal records.

Riane Bear is the new LPC Champion in the High Jump with an outstanding 5’4” 1st place performance, an inch shy of the school record. The 4 x 400 relay of Bear, Julia Moody, Kaylee Smith, and Avery Renfro ran a huge season PR of 4:28 to finish the meet with another LPC championship. Renfro ran an amazing anchor leg of 1:02 to come from behind to clinch the win for the Lady Redskins. The 4 x 100 relay of Mya Dyer, Grace Crothers, Renfro, and Kelsie Hodge also ran a season PR of 52.12 to finish 2nd in the race.

Redskins win championship

Last Friday night, the SHS Boys Track team won the Lincoln Prairie Conference Championship for the second year in a row. With three of their top senior athletes out with injuries this season, competing for another championship was a very tough challenge, but they had a lot of guys step up with huge performances to help finish on top. 

A big highlight was Mason Booker running a 40.04 in the 300m Hurdles to set a new LPC record and also reset his SHS record, and a 15.44 in the 110m Hurdles to set another new conference record.

Strong finishes in recent Fresh-Soph Invitational

SHS Girls Track had several strong performances at an unscored 16 team Fresh-Soph Invitational on Monday. Avery Renfro led the way with a 1st place finish in the 400 meter at 1:04, while she also finished 4th in the 100 at 13.87. Julia Moody finished 2nd in the mile at 5:58, while the 4 x 100 of Dyer, Smith, Crothers, Renfro finished 2nd in 54.5. 

Miracle Wilson had a career PR in the 800 finishing in 2:45. Mya Dyer placed 6th in the 100 at 13.94 and 6th in the Long Jump at 4.37 meters. Kaylee Smith and Maddie Walters placed 4th and 5th in the Triple Jump at 8.54 meters and 8.31 meters. Kinley Johnson tied for 8th in HJ at 1.27m.

SHS’s Gage Simmons signs with Greenville University

On April 30th, Gage Simmons signed his letter of intent to continue his powerlifting career and education at Greenville University this Fall. Said Simmons, “I am really looking forward to working with others on the same powerlifting path. I’m the only Illinois state deadlift record holder as of this past April.” Simmons is currently in the 205-pound weight class, but his goal is the 232-pound weight class. Dawkins NEHS submission wows 



News Progress


Mae Dawkins, a Sullivan High School senior and member of the National English Honor Society, was recently informed that she is a national winner of the NEHS Intellectual Freedom Challenge, a prestigious competition that encourages NEHS members to craft compelling arguments defending texts that have faced challenges and bans. Her essay scored among some of the best submissions in the nation by university professors. May was awarded a certificate and a $150 dollar prize.
