After struggling the week prior, Sullivan softball regrouped and started putting pieces together. Last week consisted of two conference matchups and one non-conference game. The week began on the road in Arcola.
Bested by Purple Riders
In a conference matchup against Arcola, Sullivan was looking to add another conference win. Arcola struck early with two runs in the first. Sullivan would post their first run the following inning and then tied it in the top half of the third. Arcola went back up by one before adding a big four run inning in the fourth. Sullivan responded with three runs in the fifth but just couldn’t find enough to catch Arcola. After an insurance run was added by the Purple Riders, Sullivan lost 5-8. Read More

The bats came alive for Sullivan baseball last week. They dispensed with two of their victims in shortened 10-run rule games. It moved them 9-13 on the season, 5-4 in conference play.

The week got started with a home conference match against Arcola. Arcola is having a great season, only losing two of the eighteen games they’ve had. They’re undefeated in conference play. The Purple Riders’ offense is led by Brevyn Whisman who is batting .597 on the year. He also leads the teams in home runs, adding another against Sullivan that netted him two RBIs. Read More

Nineteen teams traveled to Monticello last Friday for the Monticello Lady Sages Invitational. Several of the athletes had state qualifying jumps and personal records. After the final starter pistol rang out across the Wilkey Sports Complex, the Sullivan girls found themselves securely in sixth place out of those nineteen teams. Read More

The Sullivan Blue Dolphins wrapped up their 2023/2024 short course season with a team banquet held at Building 1225 in Sullivan. The team holds this banquet each year to recognize each individual swimmer for their hard work throughout the season, as well as various team members that excelled in certain areas, and to give thanks to the coaches, board members, and other individuals that volunteer their time and energy to support the team. It’s a track meet where some of the top teams compete as a way to size up the potential competition in the postseason. Both teams competed well with coaches happy with performances.
Riane Bear and Kharli Kelly picked up points with a second and third place finish in the high jump. Devon Richardson also picked up a point with her sixth place finish in the triple jump. Read More

The entire Midwest was watching the weather radar last Tuesday as storms swept most of the area. For Sullivan, they were hoping the rain would continue to hold out so they could get their Tri-County track meet in plus honor the seniors of this year. Unfortunately, with the second heat of girls in the blocks for the 400m relay, lightning let loose triggering the 30 minute relay. With continued lightning over the next 30 minutes, officials decided to end the meet.
In field events for the girls, Riane Bear and Kharli Kelly went one, two in high jump. Bear cleared .05m more for the win. Emily Miller also picked up points with her fourth place finish. Lily Moxley vaulted 1.83m for a fifth place finish in pole vault. Eiley Poe jumped 4.50m in long jump earning her third place. Devon Richardson took home second in triple jump with a jump of 9.76m. In a celebration of local talent and dedication on the basketball court, four standout athletes from Sullivan have been recognized in the prestigious Journal-Gazette All-Area Girls Basketball Team.
Addison Minor and Kiley Dyer have both received Special Mention for their outstanding contributions to the sport. Known for their skill, determination, and leadership on the court, Minor and Dyer have captured the attention of fans and opponents alike with their impressive performances throughout the season. Even with inclement weather scattered around central Illinois, Sullivan softball was still able to get in all seven games scheduled. Unfortunately, after posting a win in the first game of the week, the ladies found themselves on the losing side of the column for the remaining six games.
The week started off on the road against Tri-County. Kylee Freese led the team in batting going two for two with an RBI and two runs scored. Aeralyn Thrasher and J’Nai Webb each batted .500 and combined for three RBIs. Harmony Ray was one for three with a homerun and two RBIs.
Tabitha Webb was the winning pitcher. She threw seven innings giving up just five hits and one run while striking out 11. She was helped out in the field behind her with the team going error free in the game. Final score was 6-1. Read More

After posting a couple of back-to-back weeks of one win and a loss, Sullivan baseball posted a couple solid wins last week. They enter this week 6-12 on the season and 2-3 in conference play.
Last week began on the road with a conference game against Argenta on Monday. Sullivan struck first in the second inning when Adan Mills scored on an A-O error. Mills was just one for three on the day. In fact, all of Sullivan’s bats struggled throughout the game. Marshall Robison, Tristan Wright, and Kolton Wiley were the only other players to have a hit. Fallon Rose added a stolen base after reaching base on a fielder’s choice. Read More
