Last Inning Surge Falls Short for Redskins Baseball Team

Sullivan dropped a Central Illinois Conference game and a non-conference game this past week.
Monday night Tuscola scored eight runs in the third inning to bust the game open 10-0.
Sullivan answered with two runs in the top of the fourth inning, but the Warriors tacked two more on in the bottom of the inning for the eventual 12-2 win in five innings.
Drew Rogers, Dalton Rogers, Kanin Elder and Tim Lawyer each were 1-for-2 at the plate.
Dalton Rogers also scored a run and had two RBIs while Drew Rogers scored a run. Read More

The Sullivan Blue Dolphins Swim Team held their annual 2019 Awards Banquet for the 2018/2019 swim season. The following athletes received awards: Madalyn Booker: Dedication Award by Age Group; Elijah Crosier: Dedication Award by Age Group; Emily Crosier: Girl’s High Points Award ; Natalie Drury: Legacy Award, and Blue Dolphin of the Year Award; David Eaton: Newcomer Award; Mackenzie Erixon: Girl’s Sportsmanship Award; Kennedy Fultz: Dedication Award by Age Group; Addison Graham: Boy’s Sportsmanship Award; Addy Hendry: Dedication Award by Age Group; Johnathan Iacobazzi: Boy’s High Points Award; Jessica Renfro: Achievement Award – Emerson Risley: Girl’s Most Improved Award; Ethan Schmohe: Goggle Award; Gabrielle Spain: Dedication Award by Age Group; Ethan Tice: Newcomer Award; Matthew Wesselman: Boy’s Most Improved Award; Anna Wooters: Hall of Fame; Blaine Zbinden: Dedication Award by Age Group; Laynie Zbinden: Newcomer Award.

Esther Miller signed her National Letter of Intent to play basketball and track at North Park University next year. She signed on Monday May 6 in the Sullivan High School gym before classmates and family.

SHS Girls’ Track Team Places in Meet

The Sullivan girls’ track and field team placed fifth with 78 points in the Central Illinois Conference meet at Meridian High School last Thursday.
Esther Miller earned an all-conference honor with her first place triple jump of 34 feet 7 inches.
Miller also placed second in the 400 meter at 1:04.13 and fourth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.36.
Several other Redskins also scored points.
Katherine Kite took third in the 800 meter and 1,600 meter with times of 2:39.85 and 5:47.80, respectively. Read More

Timberwolves Baseball Team Splits Wins in a Busy Week

In another busy week, the Okaw Valley baseball team played four games in five days.
The Timberwolves defeated Arcola and Argenta-Oreana but lost to Decatur Lutheran and Paris.
Monday evening at Argenta-Oreana, OV needed an extra inning to plate the eventual winning run in an 8-inning pitcher’s duel.
In the top of the eighth inning, freshman Cale Roley singled in the winning run, and Dalton McGill pitched a 5-hit complete-game shutout and struck out 10 batters for the win.
McGill and Eli Hagerman each recorded a hit.
Saturday against Paris, OV could not overcome a Tiger 5-run fourth inning and eventually lost 7-3. Read More

WSS Softball Team Continues Their Winning Ways

The Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg softball team stayed undefeated on the season by blowing out Nokomis 10-0 Monday.
WSS also defeated Farina South Central 10-0 Friday and Neoga 8-2 last Wednesday.
Against Nokomis, WSS scored three runs in the first inning and five in the second inning on its way to the 10-0 win.
Calla Roney pitched six innings for the win and gave up no runs on three hits and two walks. She struck out 13.
Carson Cole was 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored, two stolen bases and one RBI.
Karlie Bean doubled three times to knock in two runs, and Maddy Pfeiffer was 2-for-2. Read More

Coach of the Year and Hall of Fame for SHS’s Sheri McCain

Illinois Basketball Coaches Association announced its District Coaches of the Year last week.
Sullivan’s head girls’ basketball coach Sheri McCain was the Class 2A District 14 Coach of the Year.
Under McCain, Sullivan earned its second straight trip to Class 2A Sweet 16 and finished with a 26-4 record.
That will not be the only honor McCain will receive while at the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame Banquet Saturday at Illinois State University. Read More

ALAH Girls’ Track Team Take LOVC Track and Field Championship

Boys’ and girls’ track and field teams competed in the last (as currently constructed) Little Okaw Valley Conference Championship meet at Thomas Bradford Field in Arcola Friday.
In the girls’ 44th annual meet, Kenli Nettles helped Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond take the LOVC championship with 99 points, while Okaw Valley placed second with 93.6 points in the 13-team meet.
Nettles scored the bulk of the Knights’ by winning four events: the 100-meter hurdles, high jump, 200-meter dash and 300-meter hurdles.
She broke the meet record in the 100-meter hurdles with a 14.85, and she ran the 200-meter dash in 26.11.
She finished the 300-meter hurdles in 46.35 and high jumped 5 feet 4 inches.
Alexa Miller also scored points in multiple events. Read More

2nd Annual T-Ball and Pinto Camp
The Sullivan Youth Baseball Board hosted the 2nd Annual T-ball and Pinto Camp April 28.  SHS head softball coach Andy Wagner and SHS head baseball coach Nathan Becker led drills for 5-8 year olds and their coaches.  Sullivan Youth Baseball is gearing up for another successful season and has almost 300 5-15 year old boys and girls registered to play. Games will kick off the week of May 12.

SHS Bass Team Fifth in Lake Shelbyville Tourney

The Sullivan High School Bass Fishing Team participated in a stormy IHSA Bass Fishing Sectional Tournament on Lake Shelbyville, Thursday, May 2.
The rain and lightning led to a delay with rain throughout the day making fishing conditions very challenging. Read More
