Six unearned runs spoil home opener
Heidi Clements took the ball for the Redskins in Tuesday’s matchup versus the Wooden Shoes and pitched better than the 10-0 final score would suggest.
Clements kept Sullivan in the contest until big fourth and fifth innings busted the game wide open. Teutopolis, who finished last year as the state runner-up, scored five times with two outs, and the Lady Redskins hurt their own cause allowing six unearned runs to score. Sullivan head coach Ben Richter thought it was the self-inflicted wounds that put the game out of reach.
“We had six total errors,” he pointed out. “Whenever that happens, you’re not going to win games, but this is our first game of the year, getting out here paying real competition against a tough team. T-Town hit the ball really well. They had nine hits. It should have been closer, but that is a good team, and we have room to improve.”
