On Friday the 5th, Sullivan’s Fast Stop held its annual Customer Appreciation Day, celebrating with free lunches to all who arrived-approximately 250 people. The purpose of the event is to give back to the customers and community that supports the store throughout the year. The menu consisted of pork burgers, hot dogs, chips, and a drink served in a red Fast Stop bucket. Giveaways and drawings were also held.

Beulah Lois Harpster, 81, of Sullivan, passed away 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 7, 2025, at Deaconess Health System, Evansville, IN.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 11, 2025, at Smyser Christian Church, rural Gays. Visitation will be held an hour prior to the service Thursday at the church. Burial will take place in the Branch Side Cemetery, rural Gays. Memorials may be made to Smyser Christian Church.

Sullivan’s Scavenger Hunt was growing up, and on October 10th, the Adults Only version kicked off. Jeri Davis explained the adult hunt was held on homecoming weekend, and the group would be part of the parade. It was adult-only because some of the prizes contained alcohol, she explained. Some sixty prizes were anticipated, with clues posted every half hour on Facebook.
The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulations (DFPR) announced the registration of its first medical cannabis dispensary. Harbory, located at 8195 Express Drive in Marion, IL, successfully completed the DFPR business dispensary registration process and inspection and was licensed to operate as a medical cannabis dispensary.

With the recent influx of dogs at the Moultrie County Animal Control facility, they are going through supplies faster than ever. Currently, they are in need of the following: MARS Pedigree Adult Roasted Chicken Flavor dog food, and Max & Neo leashes and collars. Their current inventory is very low, and the food is flying off their shelves quickly. Every donation helps them continue to provide the best care possible for these dogs until they find their forever homes.

This past Saturday in Sullivan, Building 1225 welcomed the community to its annual Makers Market, drawing about 55 local vendors and a lively crowd of shoppers for a day of creativity, connection, and fun. Building 1225 is owned and operated by the Vineyard Church in Sullivan, whose mission is for everyone in the community - and those who visit - to experience the love of God, be transformed by Jesus, and extend the miraculous. Events like the Makers Market embody that vision.

Sullivan ten-year-old 5th grader Matthew “Matty” Gudenrath heard his neighbors smoke alarm going off and when he was unable to reach his neighbor, he immediately hopped on his bike and rode directly to the Sullivan Fire Department to alert them to the situation. Offered a ride on the fire truck to show them where the address was, Matty opted to hop back onto his bike and lead them nearly 2 miles to residence address, where the call out was quickly resolved.
On Friday the 5th, Sullivan Fire Department Captain Kenny Graven awarded him a plaque of recognition, “for his courage and quick thinking alerting the fire department of a smoke alarm activation on August 15th, 2025.” A very surprised Matty accepted it humbly. Said Captain Graven of Matty with a handshake, “that was quick and smart-thinking.”

Bethany Celebration and the Bethany American Legion Post #507 will be having a Luau Hog Roast to raise money for the Bethany Celebration on October 25th. Doors open at 3:00 p.m. and meal service begins at 6:00 p.m. There will be free inflatables (with meal ticket purchase), games (for kids & adults), a specialized drink menu, live music by ‘Hippies of the Heartland’, and more. Meal tickets will go on sale September 15th and are limited. Adults cost $20.00 and children $12.00. The full meal menu will be posted on Facebook soon on the Bethany Celebration page.

On October 11th, Windsor will hold its city clean-up from 8:00 a.m. until noon. Dumpsters will be located at Old City Shed on Maine Street. Disposal fees are as follows: tires w/o rims $5.00 each, tires w/rims $15.00 each, and semi tires $15.00 each. All appliances will be $10.00 each.
If you are not able to drop the items off, but would like to participate, contact City Hall at (217) 459-2291 and have items out by the road by 8:00 a.m. for pickup. Volunteers are welcome to help pick up items for disposal. Free will donations are also being accepted to help with the cost of clean-up.
